ROVERS v Crewe Alexandra

I've had a bit of time to look at the whole of the first half vs Coventry now and am utterly bewildered by the comments which have emanated from their camp about the match since.

How they see themselves as automatic promotion candidates I do not know. They reminded me of Rovers when they played Leeds. They passed the ball backwards even when they were not challenged, but as soon as they got any pressure their passes went astray or they were successfully tackled.

If there was any slightly dangerous tackling it was by Coventry and it went completely unpunished, but if ever we even came near to challenging firmly the ref would blow his whistle. He gave fouls in their penalty area when there seemed to be no contact whatsoever. We were quicker and far more progressive in our play, not just marginally better either.

Yet they came away from it convinced that they were undeservedly deprived of all 3 points. Before I had seen all the evidence, I got the impression that they were deluding themselves and that can only be to the benefit of those around them, but I suppose beating Gillingham will have had something to do with that.

So talking of more serious opposition, the focus is on Crewe now and we will have plug some gaps to avoid the defensive vulnerability that we saw against a tireless Cambridge side last Sunday.

It would be nice to look forward to a comfortable victory, but the chances are that we see quite a battle and one we must win elegantly if possible, but scrappily if necessary.

There are times when refined football is appropriate and we did not always choose wisely last Sunday. Stuckmann needs to work on his distribution and some of the defenders need to realise that a big boot is preferable to the fancy stuff in quite a lot of situations .

Lots of early pressure by Rovers. They look very confident.

Corner for Rovers, Williams goes close, keeper saves.

Grant takes the free kick from a foul on him, Coppinger finally takes it and it comes to nothing.

The ball, now called Elvis, has left the building with Butler's boot behind it.

Watching the Norwich v Everton game I noticed an advert for Dingles Huyundai, I didn't know that the people from Barnsley sold cars.

Dingles leading 1-0.

Coppinger shoots from distance saved by the keeper. Then Williams hits one close to the corner flag ( as said by Biltcliffe).
