I never really thought how I wanted to see Luke go out... I respect the choice made.
I say I’m conflicted about Luke, cos maybe I got a version of him that may have a deeper impact.
Was there a need to see him as a badass with a Saber?.. not really. It fits in line with Obi-WANs duel with Vader in Ep 4.
We’ve seen him in his prime, and Obi-Wan was a badass, we saw a primed Luke, and now we see old man Luke.
Went out in a way nobody would of thought of, but it doesn’t feel wrong to me.
Stringer - I think one of the disappointments for me is that we didn’t see Luke in his prime. We saw him as a very young Jedi who is just learning about his abilities and we saw him as a broken old man.
Personally I’d hoped to see a little bit of the Jedi he became.
wasn't he prime in Jedi?
ok, he hadn't finished his training, but he was a fully fledged Jedi in ..er 'Jedi' wasn't he?
I reckon at some point they will make a Luke spin off.
seems to be a pattern emerging that you have to be dead in the 'Saga' films to get your own spin off..

Luke was never in his prime in Jedi. Not by a long shot. In fact according to Yoda luke didnt even become a Jedi until confronting Darth vader at the end of episode 6

ok, so when i say Prime luke, I'm talking him doing back flips off a diving board.. choking Guards out with a simple lift of a finger.. and beating Vader and then telling Emperor to shove it, cos 'i'm Jedi'...
its 30 years later. he's past it. and very bitter..
but i've never read any of the books so i don't know how powerful luke became after Jedi.
Does anyone know, what the galaxy was like after the Emperor and Vader died?.
was a Prime Luke ever called to action?
obviously i saw it as everyone lived happily ever after...
until a few years before TFA that is...

Wrong.
That is not prime Luke
Ok well, consider I’m only going by the movies... so ok, there was a Prime Luke doing Jedi stuff after ‘Jedi’.
So what were your expectations or rather what you would’ve like this Old man Luke to be like?
Obviously he isn’t prime. But like, still a don, like some grand old master that still got moves?
Just not the bitter moaning hag he’d become I guess...
I’m sure someone on here recommended the Thrawn trilogy to me..... hmm,, still canon you say?
Cos Disney did say they were wiping the slate clean...
But I’ll search for it, give it a go...

There’s a new Thrawn book out I think (released this year) that is canon I believe? Certainly Disney would have had to ok it’s release so it implies it is.
In terms of what Luke I expected, one more able is my simplistic answer. These films are supposed to be 30 years after the original trilogy, Luke was supposed to be a kid then, I’d always assumed about 20 which would make him circa 50 now. In context I always thought of ‘prime’ OB1 as mid 40s in the prequels. I just expected more than a broken old man. I expected him to be a powerful force.
I get that these are just my expectations and nothing more.

As I said, they’re just my expectations. To be honest, I go to the cinema to be entertained. A degree of realism (within the context of sci-fi imagination obviously!) is expected and the film has to feel like the SW universe to me but that doesn’t extend to considering the long term impacts of depression on a character!
There were little shows of power, I accept that. Just wasn’t what I was expecting. I appreciate that this is the difficulty of directing a SW film - this is just my view and it’ll differ from almost everyone else’s who will have their own expectations.
Given the above and what they did with the characters however, I’m seriously questioning why they bothered to bring the originals back at all. Perhaps a clean break from the skywalker story would have been for the best.

Even on xmas eve ur a kant.
Let’s be honest it was you the caaant. Told everyone not to talk about the film in your thread til a certain date then once you watched it started talking about it not caring if anyone else on the thread hasn’t seen it yet.
1 rule for 1 for another.
Although spitting your dummy out and getting admin to close the thread because we already pretty much covered the whole thing on another thread ( or two ) was pretty funny.
Enjoy your Christmas
Now now... dont ruin this thread with you lots BS.
We be star wars fans on here. We have different opinions, but we toe the line and try to be respectful, and sometimes passion for this franchise gets in the way, but its all good.
Basically im saying pipe down.
Now you wanna discuss the film or am i forced to shoot first?
