PFA Awards Shortlist

I don't think Rose should win YPOTY for a few reasons

1. There have been better young players this year.
2. He's 25.

I've never said he should be a winner or a candidate, just dismissing people saying he is a bad left back

YPOTY will be tight I reckon.

Kane, Lukaku, Barkley and Alli all great shouts,

============
So Alli has gone from a great shout to nothing more than an 'X-Factor sob story'
----------------------------------------------------------------------

He is a great shout getting goals and assists but on paper, other than the story, I cannot see why he would win it ahead of Lukaku or Kane. In fact I'd have him level pegging with Barkley who is a better footballer.

Danny Rose played very well against the world champions, and whilst it was only a friendly it gives us a good idea of how a player would cope playing internationally,

that and how well they perform at a club level
----------------------------------------------------------------------
1 game ffs
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yea, like I said it isn't what we should base it upon solely, but it gives us some what of an indicator.

Based on his performances this year he should start for England IMO

So not really a great shout then?

A good nomination.

"good nomination" is a synonym for "great shout"

These shortlists are overloaded with attacking or creative players. Not much glory for defenders is there.

They should scrap POTY and split to have GOTY, DOTY, MOTY, and FOTY instead.

Doesn't read as if Alli is only a 'good nomination'. Sounds more like you think Alli is a good shout in the tight call for YPOTY, but have decided to argue the toss for the sake of it.

Well yes.

Well no. I have maintained all along that Kane and Lukaku would be more worthy winners. So much so that if it were restricted to two nominations then I would not have Alli in it.

I don't think anyone would say he shouldn't be on the shortlist though as it is more than two.

Again - had he not played league 1 footy last year this wouldn't even be a debate.

Because I laughed at the suggestion Smalling should have been nominated for YPOTY at 26 years of age?

He it, Barkley is a better footballer, having more goals and assists this year. But performance wise Alli has had a better season and thats what matters here.

Otherwise Fabio Borini would win it every year as he is the best player in the league on or off form

Rauben, I'm sorry that Alli chose to go to Spurs and not Liverpool, I really am.

But get over it buddy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Riiiight,

Can you give me the reason Alli should win YPOTY then please?

Other than having played lower league football last year of course.

Anything will do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's young. He's a player. He's played this year. These are some of the important qualifying criteria.

As to why he should win over the other nominees, he's been more impactful in more games than at least some of the other nominees. He's been more consistent than some of the other nominees. He's scored one of the goals of the season.

As an interesting aside....is there a way to find out how many 'motm' awards a player has received in a season? Had a quick google but couldn't spot anything, but Alli has obviously had a fair few so I'd be interested to see how all the contenders compare in this regard...

More than Kane or Lukaku?

Please tell me this is what you think.

MOTM awards is subjective, do nothing and score a goal and secure the points could win you it.

But 5 key tackles and a block may not.

Either way Alli has been consistent, had an impact on Spurs season and has been the best young player this year. Also take into account his limited top level exposure at club and international level and you have the winner.

Coutinho's getting better every season. He's getting more assists and goals under his belt and has tamed his tendency to shoot when a pass is the better option. Some of the goals he's scored this season have been class. Worthy of a nomination.

This is based on watching him live at home games and when I can away, not on MOTD highlights.
