Saf was heavely linked with Gazza and Shearer. Shame we missed out on them.

With one player i wonder how his career if he had chosen you..........
with the other i thank goodness he made the career choices he did. You were formidable enough with the strikeforce you had as it was.....United with Shearer? OMG it gives me the jitters just thinking of it......
I really did want us to get Ozil in 2010, when he was infamously spotted at Carrington. I don't know how much real interest there was from United, though.
I wasn't too fussed about it at the time but I think United were looking at Di Canio in January 2002. That could have been interesting.
Shearer and Batistuta are obviously big ones for United. I think it's fair to say that Shearer would have finished his career with a few more medals if he'd joined us instead of Blackburn and then Newcastle.
Gazza
Shearer
Batistuta
Ronaldinho
Robben
We didn't do too badly without them tbf.
Sneidjer was close to joining us after the 2010 world cup. Journalists claimed to hear saf and meulensteen discussing the transfer.
We ended up getting Michael Owen I think.

In the summer of 2010, we had an Ozil- or Sneijder-sized hole in our side and it just seemed obvious we'd go for one of them. Rooney had just had a stellar season at no. 9, Valencia had done well in his first year, Nani was starting to show some signs that he could perform, Fletcher had his best season ever and we knew that Carrick would surely improve after a poor 09-10 campaign. A top no. 10 would have been brilliant for us then.
Owen was signed in the summer of 2009, though, along with Valencia and Obertan. I think the only signings we made in 2010 were Smalling, Hernandez and Bebe.

I wonder how the world of tv punditry would have progressed had the sneidjer deal happened and owen had seen out his days at WBA
shearer.
we would of won the league every year with him in the side.
After that robben and essien, not getting those two irritates me the most.
Who was the United poster obsessed with Sneijder?
Like really obsessed.
I wasn't too fussed about it at the time but I think United were looking at Di Canio in January 2002.
yeah i would of liked him as well.
With Shearer I don't have regrets. First, if we'd have signed Shearer, we'd likely have not signed other great strikers who are entwined in our history and who I wouldn't want to airbrush out of it. We probably wouldn't have bought Cantona (or Dion Dublin!) if we had got Shearer in 1992. I'm happy with the players and trophies we had in the 90s.
Secondly, he always annoyed me. He had that habit of referring to himself in the third person in interviews and while turning down United is fair enough, by all accounts he was quite condescending towards Fergie. I like the fact that he's often asked whether he regrets never joining United and missing out on all those trophies. I like the sourness of his smile when he says if he had his time again he wouldn't do anything different.
Gazza, on the other hand, has always been a regret. Imagine Gazza and Cantona in the same team. And just maybe in the more grounded environment of Man Utd his life would have taken a different path.
Captain Positivity, he came back here under the name Very_Cleverely_Done but I've not seen him around for years now.
waiting for slm to come and write modric followed by 8 page essay on why we should of bought him.

It's also worth remembering that we got Ole, and we know that Shearer was somewhat dearer.
Slm does like modric a tad.

To be fair, he was pretty good at Leeds. But it was worth missing out on him just to hear him say that United were in decline while signing for Liverpool.

He was very good, yeah. His whole thing about United being on the way down though just makes him a joke in my eyes.
I might be remembering this wrong but we were not also rejected by Kewell's compatriot, Brett Emerton? I'm sure I recall him saying he didn't want to play for United as the comparisons with Beckham would be endless?

Think Gazza's life would have panned out pretty much the same reguardles tbh.
Shearer would have been a monster with Becks whipping them in.
