Congrats Wales, stunning performance!

Agree with this post. So many people are so quick to say that England aren't good enough that I can only assume they derive pleasure from it. Brilliant stuff from Wales, but if they can do it, so can England.

Wales have a collective group brought together by a manager a big named player, who have a recognised style and direction.

England could easily replicate that, if only the FA pulled their heads out of their you know whats. It's laughable that both Southgate and Neville have any chance of getting the job.

The difference between England and Wales is England are weighted down by unrealistic expectation and pressure being a big team that hasn't delivered in so long. While that's true of Wales, they're a much smaller team who have no great expectations and know they are already in successful territory just by being where they are. That naturally brings them a tighter knit team spirit.

I wouldn't go for either of those two myself... But who else?

Just someone with a clear style of play, and experience of success. Both those two clearly don't have it. Even someone like Alladyce, hate him as a person plus his style, but think he would make a successful international manager. A young English manager who has come up from grassroots maybe, Eddie Howe has already proved successful with his pressing/playing brand of football.

You're ideally looking for someone who's a good motivator and who can bring about a strong team spirit among the players. If English is the only way to go then I would say the closest we'd have to that would be Redknapp, who should have got it when Hodge did.

Yes Wales done well but let's be serious here have they really played anyone decent.

England - absolutely dire yet beat wales
Slovakia - tanked by germany
Russia- worst team in euros
Northern Ireland - really
Belgium - decent team but like England slightly better
And now portugal who I think have reached semi by o ly winning one game!

If they played teams like France, Spain, Italy and Germany we would see how they really are. They are lucky they where in the easy side of the draw.

You do know Belgium are ranked 2nd in World football ?

Yes I do know they are ranked but look at their performance in world cup.and here it clearly shows they are not a good team.

But Wales can only beat what is in front of them I am just saying they draw was very favourable. Just shows how poor England were

Fantastic night and well done Wales, managed to get me excited about a Home Nation in a way that England haven't managed in years. Showed the value of unity and team spirit - they are far from a one-man side.

The only hitch is, I do feel like things are shaping up rather well for Portugal. Ronaldo must not win.

As if the rankings mean anything. Belgium are certainly not the 2nd best team in World football, and never were. They already got beaten by Wales in the qualifying.

They're a bunch of bottlejobs like England, who were also ranked way above their real level.

Difference is Belgium actually have world-class difference makers in Hazard and De Bruyne. They bottled it. England didn't necessarily bottle it - we're just not very good.

Absolutely fantastic stuff from wales. Really deserved it.

GB, nearly spot on,but, no cigar. England have obvious, evident problems. The solution is clear. But, being a Jock, it would be wrong for me to comment. Long may your pathetic national squad continue.

Nothing personal, you understand.

England's problems aren't mental for me. It's just the FA never seem to pick a good manager who can really plan a team. The players have no idea what's going on. Seems to go well in the qualifiers with players playing in their positions, getting wins and then suddenly the tournament starts and players are played out of position.

Plus playing a big man up front with a poor touch along with intricate passers in behind him, doesn't help. If you want to play the big man, play players who cross the ball. If not play a striker who can link up, like Sturridge. It's no coincidence the one game England played like this they actually won.

Better planning needed all round. England need a young forward thinking manager. Rodgers would have been perfect in my opinion.

Watched "Mike Bassett:England manager" again with my son. Half way through felt it wasn't a spoof. More like a hard hitting fly on the wall documentary of how the F.A. Is run!

Too many yes men, too many old men and too many beaurocracts with no football knowledge running the show.

posh incompetent folk with no common sense calling the shots, or folk who have done well in one area of life and are then assumed to be experts on everything............this is the way things are done in england

and not just in football

Shearer said it last night.

England played the same system all the way through qualifying and won every game.

We get to the tournament and Roy plays a completely different system.

I think we just need a manager who knows how he wants to play then picks the players to play that system. If that means some stars get dropped then so be it.

Form is the main thing, Kane list it at the end of the season, yet Roy played him up top over others in form.

The top goalscorer in the league. How much more in form could you be? Of course he had to take Kane. To blame him for that is stupid.

He should have taken Townsend and Drinkwater if we're talking players in form.

England did kind of bottle it though. They collectively shat their pants in the second half of the Iceland match.

It's the thinking at the top that needs to change first.

If you look at cricket and rugby for example lessons were learned after failures and acted on. Look at the England rugby team, they have the winning mentality and organisation to go a long way, that 0-3 beating of Austraila in their own backyard shows what can be done.

The FA set their sights low by appointing Hodgson and they would have been quite happy to scrape to a semi final under the proven loser they had employed. I dig the faux outrage they have now they fell short of their own low standards.

Who do they turn to now? A proven bottler in Gareth Southgate who unsurprisingly doesn't have the cojones to step up and take the job. Where is his pride?

Time to sack the decision makers at the FA remove Southgate and start to clear up the mess left behind with a team that know what they are doing.
