was going to but watching Ronin instead

This is a once every four years event. There seems to be a distinct lack of interest.

Watching it now. All a bit boring but I guess the majority of the Olympics bar the 100m and 200m finals, are boring anyway.

jaded millennials with no sense of occasion or national pride, too ensconced in our self-centered existence to care

"This is a once every four years event. There seems to be a distinct lack of interest."

Too much sport on tv, too many scandals (drugs, fraud), too much politics.

Public does not identify with sports people making huge money anymore.

The Olympics and World Cup cripple the economies of the countries that put them on, for the most part.

Not surprising that there is reduced interest.

Not sad at all. I was kind of exxagerating. I do watch the majority of the athletics but the other sports like football, cycling, swimming, i cant seem to get into it.

I admit, I'll probably be following the British competitors more than the rest (in all the non-athletic events> . . .

I don't disagree with most of this, but I'm still not totally jaded/cynical yet.

I do feel the British media go overboard whenever another country is hosting a sporting event. There seems to be an agenda to sht on everything that Rio is trying to do. Same happened with the world cup in south africa.. Qatar will be like hitting the jackpot for the media.

Besides being jaded, we also have so many other choices in entertainment and life is very busy for most of us.

US coverage also tends to be very focused on US participants which are not always the great stories of the Games.
