Chronic, imagine we get drawn in a group with a team like Barcelona for the CL.
Spurs v Barca in a competitive match under the lights at Wembley.....and you wouldn't feel a small tinge of excitement? You'd be dead inside.
This season will be great.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
i don't think you can use a hypothetical situation to tell me why I should be excited.
plus Barcelona would tear us apart, so tbh I wouldn't really be particularly excited about that.
and I would much prefer to play them at WHL.
infact I think it is horrible that our last season at WHL coincides with a rare season in the CL, and we are not even playing there.
so our last European game at a stadium which has so many great European memories was us getting shaaat on by borussia Dortmund with a half strength team.
fack that !

I know what you mean Ace, I used to kickbox to a decent level but we also included elements of MMA into classes every week...grappling was always the hardest session of the week. The biggest injuries we had were always in that class...I bust ribs, popped a couple and in my first ever class one of the blokes had his leg broken when the other bloke landed on him awkwardly

Yeh football is shoved down our throats so much that you don't get a chance to miss it in the off-season.

Yeah mate was much harder than I expected! I assumed with having a karate background I'd be fine but floor work is a different world. I realise that as your technique improves it will negate an opponents size, which is the whole point, but when you're learning and have little technique having a 17 stone bloke pinning you to the ground can get a bit uncomfortable!
---------
Yep, we had one guy who was 6ft3 and 19stone...I thought I had him in an armbar till he stood up with me still hanging onto him.
My daughter on the other hand was dynamite at grappling, especially after I taught her a proper choke hold...the lads wouldn't fight her as she always choked them out
I think this season is starting 2 weeks too early!
With no Euros/World cup next summer there is no hurry to finish and we should have been given more time to get over the wretched Euros. Also that way the transfer window is nearly shut when the season starts. Win, win.
Yeah I'm sort of with you too Chronic. I'm looking forward to it, but not excited. For me it's because:
1) The money, transfer fees, wages, sponsorship etc. It's not real life any more. Utd might win the league but when you've spent the money that they have, is it really an achievement?
2) Getting older = other things are more important
3) In the world of televising everything and social media, everything becomes overanalysed. It's just a game FFS, no need to crucify / worship people weekly.
4) A lot of football fans are idiots (most of the present company excepted!)

Comments making me miss Karate and Judo from a while back. Used to go often until about 12 when I started sticking to football only... but I remember at about 6 years old avoiding grapples with a kid in Judo because he had a snotty nose and bogies coming down to his lip
Who's your local non league team Ace?

We used to avoid the bloke who sweated profusely and had a bad habit of farting when he put you in a leglock

Vert, I'd have probably turned it into a street fight if a sweaty bloke tried fart in my face and kept me in a lock for it to linger and probably do something horrible to my lungs inhaling it.
Ace - Just had a quick look, 278 seated isnt bad at all. Last team I played for had about 1000 capacity and id guess around 80 seated.
Boss - he always got sorted out during sparring sessions, revenge is a dish best served cold...he got some right pastings
