'Its easy to say they had better players because they finished 1st and 2nd.' Well, yeah - it is. That's usually the way it works. Also makes a lot more sense than suggesting it's all to do with genius management and 'momentum'.
If, come this time next season, we're top of the Championship with the same team and some of our players have been signed by Premier League clubs, I'll concede the point. Otherwise, I've no idea what you're on about.
Anyway, I'll shut up abaout it now because it doesn't matter. I only mentioned it because I feel that to go up automatically, you need to have a team that's pretty much going to be top 10 Championship.
The man with no name
You think we were a top 10 championship team the last time we went up??
Man with no name has a picture of Gus Poyet above his bed.
'You think we were a top 10 championship team the last time we went up??'
Well, we finished 9th the second season back with pretty much the same team so yes, why not?
Of course, not every team that goes up from League 1 does brilliantly but there's plenty of teams that have gone up automatically in recent years and gone on to do very well in the Championship soon after. Think this suggests that if we're gonna make top two, it'll probably take a team more than capable of holding it's own in the league above to win this division or finish second.
There's plenty teams that back me up: Hull City, Bristol City, Swansea, Forest, Leicester, Millwall, Leeds, Norwich..
I'm sure you can find teams that disprove this but wouldn't you rather we had a team that could go up and hold it's own anyway?
No way is the team that we went up with last time, better than this. we had GW and the others you can laugh at.
We were fortunate to get promoted, but who cares as long as it happens. once promoted we can worry about improving the squad, for the championship.
All teams buy to improve the standard of league they are in.
'No way is the team that we went up with last time, better than this.'
Are you serious?! Brunt, Whelan, MacLean, Bullen and McGovern would walk into this side on their 2005 form, in my opinion. Brunt and Whelan are Premier League regulars..
We finished 19th the first season back in the championship.
Anyway i'm keeping the faith and you can carry on being a Victor Meldrew
U10318!
They've dubbed you 'man with no name'
How About Arch Stanton!
The same Chris Brunt and Glen Whelan, that so many Wednesday fans slated. No wonder we cant achieve success, with Fans like you Victor.

Well it's newt to do with 'keeping the faith' or being negative, just saying what I see.
I think we have some decent players and could make the play-offs. If my not saying players that have barely kicked a ball for us are going to help us hammer teams makes me Victor Meldrew then so be it!
Saying you laugh at Glenn Whelan just makes you look stupid - were you laughing when he scored the winner in the play-off final? Thought not.
Brunt and Whelan were quality players even if lazy and I'd have either over JOC, JJ and balsa boy sedgwick any day of the week!
Brunt and whelan i'll give you. But then Semedo Prutton, madine,Bath, Lowe, would walk in to the 2005 team
Who the Fewk has laughed at whelan you pleb?
I was laughing at the 2005 team ie peacock and co. they were pants
Bathh?! He's not even our player! Lowe has played about 30 minutes for us and he's already better than MacLean!
Seriously, what planet are you on? Lowe, Madine, Semedo etc could be good players for us but why are you bigging them up like they'll take us to the Premier League, based on about 6 games?! Mental.
Anyway, I'm through with this.
So many wednesday fans ridicule players at the time and after they have been sold on and don't have the pressure they get at wednesday, the fans suddenly talk how great they are and compare them to the next crop of poor sods.

You really are an idiot who picks theings out to suit your argument.
Bath plays for us now doesn't he.
Why do you think Lowe isnt in the same bracket as Mclean, or does mclean now play for a premiership club.
Did maclean take us to the premiership.
I
It took a season and change of manager before Brunt & Whelan 'peaked' for us. They were both very very hit and miss the season we went up. Brunt in particular had no consistency at all and even when playing well that left peg was nothing like the weapon it was when we finished 9th.
Neither of them in the 2005 incarnation would walk into this side.
MacLean was quality though. Didn't do much besides score but was deadly.
'Neither of them in the 2005 incarnation would walk into this side.'
So who in the current team keeps Brunt out? Lines? Sedgwick? Mr consistency JJ?
Of course, Brunt got better with time but as soon as he peaked he was off to the Premier League so you'd think he was pretty decent to start with. Same with Whelan, although our central midfield looks alright at the moment.
(U103318) are you (U9706) resigned up cos U9706 used to get really mardy!
Izzy;
Madine and Lowe have not got 10 between them. Last time I looked Lowe hadn't scored any goals for us. He scored 7 for Bury and one of those was against us.
-------------------------------
We're talking about their prowess as goal-scorers.10 goals are 10 goals, regardless of who they scored them for (except for own goals obviously!!)! Even Sky attributes all goals scored in a season to any given player on their leading goal-scorers table! That table credits Madine with 3 and Lowe with 7! So Hirsty and I are right.....and you know it;
I think, he thinks that goal scoring ability is automatically removed from players when they sign for us.
Izzy can't see further than his little pug nose!
People slated Chris Brunt? Even I knew he was good, and I wa s10!
Yep, people slated Chris Brunt for being lazy and drifting out of games too much. To be fair, he did do that a lot but also he could win a game by belting one in from 20-30 yards.
Whelan, Brunt and Bullen would get into the current team; not too sure that many of the others from the 2005 team would get into the current squad/team. As others have said that 2005 team also had players like Lee Peacock, who were garbage.
Remember that we were lucky to even make the playoffs that season; without the loan signing of Kenwyne Jones and the goals he scored which sparked a decent string of results, we wouldn't have made the playoffs.
Funny how Bullen is a Wednesday legend but I seem to recall my heart was in my mouth every time a speedy striker turned him just outside the area! If Wednesday fans love Bullen then it is for his attitude and leadership skills rather than his footballing ability!
