But by response I would agree that Burke is not the only player to be a threat for Forest. But if you take him out of your opening games - you wouldnt be 7th. He's been one of the big reasons for you scoring so many goals. Given your defensive openness - you need to keep that going.

Jordan Rhodes is absolutely proven at this level - so ridiculous to say he wouldn't have added anything. But I agree with you, if it would have dragged you into FFP then of course it would be wrong to sign him.

Fawaz has financially snookered himself meaning he has to sell off your best players every season to avoid the embargo. Don't kid yourself that this is just the way it is these days - Derby aren't in the mess you are.

Overall since Fawaz you haven't made one bit of progression as a football club and are slowly but surely going backwards financially

Ignore the first two replies.

Good article. Need to have some patience with a new manager and squad.

I agree SteveB we're probably having to pay Henri & Britt some where between 25-30k a week each to keep em' at the club.

Nawaz has made a lot of mistakes, but possibly we are all misjudging the guy here a bit. He definitely isn't very clever so most of these c'k ups may well be down to stupidity and not planning.

It isn't the result that's the issue, it's the journey.

That he sold Burke without consulting PM or the CEO, for cash in what looked to be the first substantial bid. There was a lot of time and room to get clubs to compete for him and get a lot better value for money.

That he said he'd reinvest the money and ended up giving two new contracts and 3 players from the bargain pile.

I never wanted FAH to spunk the money, and if he needs to sell Burke to keep big players and us afloat... Great.

But what he's said and what he's done are complete opposite.

It's quite interesting at the moment.

There is another theory that PP and PM are being told what to do and what not to do by the Greek guy.

If you look at the evidence this becomes quite plausible.

Fawaz has a wedge of Wonga from the sale of Burke that was burning a hole in his pocket. When has he not wanted to show off to the fans by making a big name signing? This was an opportunity to be a hero again, he even tweeted about it! Fawaz always seems desperate to be liked, rather like 666.

Fawaz was telling PP to get a big name in, but nothing happened. It's almost like PP and PM may have refused signings to weaken the position of Fawaz. It does appear the plan of PP and PM is different from the ego farming Fawaz has.

All the signings this summer have been drawn from PP's network, they are low cost and have been, on the whole very good.

I think Fawaz was willing to blow the money on a big name, which he's done before, and why we were in a financial mess to begin with. That and him being a clusterfuc k.

I'm not aware we have a CEO but if you mean DOF then who says they weren't consulted & who says it was the first substantial bid?

The bargain pile as you call it is the point I was trying to cover off in my article.

FAH has not done the complete opposite to what he said."Every penny would be used to make Forest stronger" is what he said. If that means for once we are on a sound financial footing & not staring down the barrel of FFP then, for me thats good.

11 new players, 4 unseen, 7 all looking bargains at this very early stage. Better entertainment on the pitch, a style that will work OB or no OB.

My article was called reality check.

Burke was quoted yesterday as saying he was first made aware of the transfer a week before it happened. I don't think there's anyway that PM or PP did not know about it - it's just unfounded speculation to say they were unaware. Fawaz's biggest problem is what he says on Twitter. Maybe its lost in translation but if he hadn't got fans hopes up it wouldn't have been so bad. We have to be realistic - we are a championship club with dwindling crowds. We need to sell players from time to time to meet FFP and £13m is a decent price for someone who is very unproven. Look at Hughes at Derby - they'd probably get about half now for him compared to what they could have done a couple of years ago with injuries and form - the same could happen to Burke and we could have ended up saying "we should have sold him when we could have got £13m for him". Time will tell but it's not the worst deal ever and something we need to do from time to time - Forest fans need to be realistic about that. Yes the new players look underwhelming but give them a chance - the likes of Ighalo and Martin didn't have great records until they moved, but they've done ok in the last couple of years.

Agreed.

Adnam Januzaj, the next Ronaldo after playing less than 10 games at 18/19. On another loan at Sunderland. It can go both ways. O.B's £13m is very good business.

Fair do's. Didn't hear that Burke had heard earlier.
Heard that he only knew a day in advance which would suggest a rushed grab, but if he knew earlier then great puts a complaint to bed.

There is also a rumour he handed a transfer request in after the Milwall game.

That's a headline, but it's more likely his agent was stating the ball rolling then.

Owd 50p head has gone?

Thanks for the service; his goal that helped keep us up when Davies first arrived was priceless, and I'll never forget that goal.

Wonder if a free agent is being lined up?

Good to see them shipping out players like Dex who will just never play... But if Britt gets injured, does that only leave vellios?

That's a lot of faith there.

..................

Fawaz's Twitter comment was....

"I can assure all #NFFC supporters that his money will be used and reinvested back into the squad"

Sorry but the implication there is not that it will be used for day to day running or to keep the FFP wolf from the door.

The Greek reporter who has pretty spot on about most things lately was the one reporting that Burke was sold behind PP and PM's back. Considering he's been first to name most signings before they are confirmed, I think it can't be just dismissed as hear say. Plus let's face it the same thing happened with Lascelles/Darlow.

The way I understand the set-up is that the Greeks have installed PM and PP, plus a few others ahead of the investment being confirmed. They don't get final say on transfer and as such, Fawaz for whatever reason sold Burke. This has put the investment in further doubt (according to the Greek reporter).

I think there is a bit of scrambling around trying to make more comfortable sense of it all

For me, family cash point is closed, Fawaz needs cash for day to day running and got trigger happy as investment is getting held up. Again we're not sure why, but I can't believe the Football League would just sit on it this long, has been to be another factor.

If PM and PP didn't have a say on the Burke transfer and thought he was staying, maybe their targets were pre-drawn up. Even if Fawaz gave them a chunk more cash they had three days to move the goal posts and maybe weren't comfortable they could do that properly before then. Who knows?

What's clear is Fawaz hasn't gone and just signed a player himself to appease fans, we can be thankful for that.
