Why would any alien want to talk to an animal that knowingly dumps its waste in tomorrow's drinking water?

They might as well talk to my dog.

I would ask them if Robb vs VC had any point to it? And if so, why 999998484349999 simulations.

I think even the most stoic of atheists would be a bit disheartened to learn we were a science experiment.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't get this bit... why would we be disheartened?

My own view is... theres billions of stars and planets in billions of galaxies... that we know about. Its astonishingly arrogant to believe that we're alone and it was all created for us by some sky fairy etc.

In Robbs scenario... much like the god theory, they'd need to show evidence... if they could then religion/god etc is dead... although I'd imagine a fair amount would refuse to believe it because... well, you know... because the bible/Koran etc says differently.

Due to the amount of power and influence (and control obv) organised religion has across the world, it could be possible we've already been contacted at a high level but its been hidden to protect the status quo and keep people believing and under control

They may wish to communicate to dogs, whales before talking to us... they might get more sense from them than us... animals aren't the ones destroying the place and draining natural resources.

take humans out of the equation and the earth repairs itself in no time... we are, or have evolved into, a bit of a parasite tbh

I would scream Eureka!!

I was right! They said I was mad, but I was right! I was right!

While that is true... I would imagine any advanced race would have been through a similar phase in their evolution too. Technology requires alot of energy and alot of mistakes.

Yup. We are a cancer on this planet

I also believe given the strength of faith across the globe, any extra-terrestrial existence would not alter belief (in a God) anyway.

How would the presence of aliens contradict religious texts?

Regarding my point about atheists being a bit disheartened...

I can only speak for myself I guess but I like the idea of everything on this planet happening by accident rather than by design.

Don't see why this would dishearten atheists?

No different to what we do to gorillas, mice or any other animals.

The accident could be by design too

See how fascinating this topic can be?

very true that...

suppose it would boil to down to whether they are hostile or committed to helping other planets and species advance

Whether they are prepared to let others learn from their mistakes... or they don't want mistakes from one species to destroy others... they may not want other species to reach their level either

who knows

Religious text dictates that god created man and the universe.

The presence of aliens that had proof that they created man would disprove one and give further doubt about the other.

posted on 8/9/16

I wasn't saying it would or wouldn't Mud. Simply asking how if at all it would contradict the text?

posted on 8/9/16

Honestly don't think I'd care. We're just an accident anyway, mankind has always deluded itself about its importance.

This.

The bible says that god created man in his own image. Surely if aliens came to earth 20 feet tall and not at all human like surely that would disprove the texts?

Most Atheists havent even read the religious texts they always criticise. They just believe what scientists have told them...just like religius people believe whatever is written about god.

posted on 8/9/16

Couldn't they argue that god created aliens and ordered them to create humans in his image?

I haven't read the Harry Potter books but i know that they're fiction to be fair.

Alot of these ideas are explored in "Prometheus", the movie couldn't quite bring it all together, but the questions it raised were interesting.

The screenwritter was part of the team that wrote "lost", so no surprises .
