I'm 24. Got my first car at 19 (a Citroen c1) for £3k (paid my parents back over 12 months).
About 4 months ago I bought an Alfa Romeo Mito QV which I love. But I waited until after I'd got my first mortgage which I got about 18 months ago.
I have a friend who is 26, works in the same job as me and still lives with his parents and just splashed out £35k on an M1. Madness
Also this is on the Maidenhead board op
I suppose I should have mentioned that at 22 i bought a flat (which i still have), and a house when i was 29.
Plus the ridiculous amount on a wedding when I was 34

I bought my flat at 22. Best thing I ever did as although saving up for the deposit was tough it now means I save a fortune compared to people who rent.
I spent £350 on my first car which was a ford cortina mark 3 back in 1985
Never got to drive it as some piffed up fecker crashed into it and wrote it off when it was parked up outside my house

Cheers I'm an accountant though
I do have plenty of friends who waste fortunes on cars and don't get me wrong I love cars, but some things are more important.
I was lucky enough to get a good job and so was afforded the luxury of spending a bit on cars. But looking back, i should have spent that money elsewhere, especially with the way things are now and going to get.

Bit of massaging the ego and machoness in there i guess
You could pose this same question about how much we spend on nights out.
Or dare I say I'm following your team.
All money better spent elsewhere. But how mundanely boring would life be then?
Spending what you can afford is the key surely.
For me, cars are an enjoyment.

Tbf ive saved well but i can see the storm ahead thats coming. It's gona get painful for a lot of people.
The sad thing about this post is that you used to drive a BMW and Audi and now you drive a Vauxhall!
It's nothing new Force.
Let's just say I have a few more years on you
I've gone through the depth of at least three awful depressions and none worse than the last.
We're undoubtedly again in line for yet more challenges and in my experience they tend to go in circa 7-9 year cycles. Our economy never learns.
In all if these, some do well and some suffer. What I see now is the gap between those at either end of the scale getting wider and wider.

Had Audis for the past 7 years after driving Mercs for yonks.
Can't see past them now. 👍
My latest car just cost me 18,000. Octavia vrs. It's an awesome car. Very happy with it.

5th car - Renault 21 2.0D the tank! Maybe 3k?
6th car - Renault Clio 1.6 16v overall maybe my fave car all things considered? Quick (with various engine mods), cheap to run and insure etc. 6k (I think I still actually own it somewhere in Yorkshire? )
7th car Porsche Boxster S. Oh man. Now that was speed. In a straight line......Cornering scared the crap outta me! 13k
8th car - Bought a cheap runaround for winters as I didn't trust myself in the Boxster in snow Ford Mondeo V6 for about 850 quid. Fecking thing blew up within a week- ripped off bigtime!
9th car - Land Rover Freelander 2.0D HSE 13k I think?
10th car - Audi A5 3.0TDI Quattro cabrio. Went a bit crazy with my first car in Germany. Lovely motor but kinda regret spending so much. 32k (euros- so about 50k sterling right now )
