Koscielny is actually the best CB in the league though. So it's a different situation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
pause for breath
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So rather than just laugh like a child why don't you add to the debate and persuade who is better?
Not saying Kos is an all-time Prem great btw just the best around at the moment with perhaps Toby A at Spurs his only rival bearing in mind Terry is now 47 or something and Kompany is finished.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
there are lots of very good CB's in the prem at the moment, trouble is fans generally can't see past their own players and it comes down to bias, I would suggest Ashley Williams who NEVER puts a foot wrong but I would be as bad as you then for showing bias
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But I'm not being biased? I just said that kos isn't an all-time great. I could easily name half a dozen CBs superior in the last decade such as Rio, Terry, Vidic, Keown, Adams, Sol, Hypia etc etc.
In my view Kos is just the best of a pretty average lot in the Prem at the moment that's all. Williams is good I agree but for me Kos is better as he times his interceptions better and doesn't just rely on his strength which I feel Williams does.
Just my view btw which is better than just providing daft smiley faces with nothing to back it up like my teenage son would

Alder is head and shoulders, best record in the league last year in an attacking team. Gave away 1 foul or something till very late in the season last year. And been good this year. Let's be honest if it was any other team kos wouldn't be rated at all but arsenal fans have a knack of "repeating it will make it true". Same comes to Ozil.
I would never put luiz in there btw, just said he's been good since he came back. And conceded less than "the best" koscielny
Gallas and Carvalho at Chelsea were also comparable with Kos as well.....

Gallas had it all and made less mistakes than kos, atleast at chelsea.
And carvahlo is probably top 5/10 in PL history with records to back it up.
Sheriff John Brown - bring back David Dein -
I wouldn't say Hazard had 3 excellent seasons. The first two he showed much promise but his form was erratic (as is expected from a young player). Mata was easily Chelsea's best player during this time. It was only in Chelsea's title winning season did Hazard turn it up a level or two and look world class. And since then, he hasn't progressed at all. He's been good this season but a level below Coutinho. He is older then Coutinho too so should no longer be considered a "prospect".
Of course I have high expectations of Hazard. I thought he would be among the world's elite by now and he clearly isn't.

Your right I dislike arsenal, but more due to the dominance u had in the 90s over chelsea, not due to your players now. And yes Ozil is a flat track bully who was suppose to propel arsenal to trophies, instead you havn't got past the CL quarters and never looked like winning the league. He has done nothing of note in any big tight games and is a luxury player. What he does he is very good at, if not the best, but its doesn't, in the end make a difference.
Would have sanchez every day of the week over him, even propelled chile to winners this year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think the argument started off by saying that Coutinho is decent but not as good as the likes of Silva and Ozil. The Kos argument is entirely different as this isn't a great time for top class CBs so although Kos wouldn't have been considered top class 5-10 years ago he is now by default. He's therefore not being overated as I'm saying he's the best of a poor lot.
I mean who is better - Smalling or Cahill ffs? Ok Toby maybe.
I know I'll get accused of over-rating one of our own players but Matip has the potential to be a top CB. He's been brilliant so far and is a real dominating figure at the back. Seems very composed too.
BTW, any Arsenal fans think Mustafi might exceed Koscielny? I like the look of him so far.

different types of players with Mustafi being more old school Vidic or Terry type of tough CB whereas Kos is more an intercepter rather than a tackler.
Good start by him though.
I think he is marginally overrated with his current ability, but not his potential ability.
As you rightly say, he's a top player and a match winner for Liverpool. He has the ability to open up the defence and can come in off that left flank and whip shots right down and he shows his abilities when doing that. But I think there are too many times in his game where he goes missing or is just not at the races, which he can't afford. I think give him another year or two and he will be at one of Barca or Madrid (preferably Barca imo), but he needs to develop his game to make sure he is causing a constant threat in a game, rather than running a midfield ragged for 15 minutes, but then going missing for another 10 minutes.
He will be at Barca or Real or one of them big clubs in the next year or 2, so his potential ability is nowhere near overrated. You could maybe argue his current ability is, but I'm only agreeing because I watch him constantly. Certainly has the capabilities to be a world class AM with improvements to 1/2 parts of his game.

Coutinho is a fantastic player and IMO the best player at LFC.
In regard to Kos, I believe he is up there with the best CB’s in the PL. Can’t think of too many that have performed better than him this season.
Demonstrated by the fact he has given away two fouls the entire season. For a CB an amazing stat.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think people need to start analysing CBs in the kind of system they pla rather than isolated performances.
As I was saying on another thread yesterday, It is easier for a CB when the play he play for have 11 men behind the ball. At Arsenal, it is defintely not the case and our CBs get exposed much more.
Look at John Terry for example whom people think he has been one of the best. He got completely exposed in the AVB system.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Goes both ways. Kos is actually better defending that way, he likes to win the ball quickly and has pace to recover, meaning he can stay tight to the striker. He is prone to some dodgy marking now and again but because you'e on the front foot for the best part it isn't exposed.
Smallling was outstanding last season, in a more defensive formation. This season, with space in behind him, he is struggling.
Same as any player, if the system doesn't suit him he isn't going to perform to his potential.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really mate, your CBs get exposed more? you play 2 DMs half the time Coq and Elneny
Koscielny is a good defender, not the best in the league by a long shot, he has massive flaws, one being his strength the other being rash up against any decent striker he gets found out, even Costa put him on his backside a few times making him look foolish and his team didn't even turn up
I don't know if he's getting overrated. I mean I haven't seen anyone call him world class yet, but then I don't go on the Pool board that often.
He's been one of the best players in the league this season so far, so as long as people aren't putting him in the world class bracket then he's probably rated about right.
Could argue hes underrated by the majority especially fans, the pundits are starting to enjoy watching him now, Hargreaves commentating for BT sports for example was just showering him with compliments.
Thats not undeserved though hes been extremely good so far this season.
