There's a rematch clause so you'd imagine we'll see these two fight again after such a close and controversial decision. Whether it happens in Vegas again remains to be seen though.
Harold Lederman scored it 116-111 in favour of kovalev
if the fight was in Russia, Kovalev would have got the decision for sure

Here is the fight.
All the judges scored the last round for Ward.
Count the clean landed punches of both fighters me.
It is shocking how Ward was given this.
----------------------------------------------
Why do you think the last round was given to Ward.
Be subjective and watch it again - perhaps with sound off as you appear to be particularly influenced by the commentary judging by your comment above.
I saw Kovalev missing a lot, looking tired and Ward landing the cleaner, sharper punches from the outset of the round - outmaneuvering him & generally controlling it. Sure, Kovalev landed a few decent shots, he's an excellent fighter. It's just Ward knew what to do to be better on the night. He's class.
Honestly, do you really think the decision was 'shocking'???

Just watched the fight through and Kovalev definitely won in my opinion.
I'm a fan of Kovalev but I had Ward winning it by a few rounds.
Just shows you how subjective scoring in boxing is
Just watched it with the sound off so I wasnt influenced by the commentators.. Had it 12-0 to Kov.
As Larry Merchant said after the fight even if you had the fight as a 6-6 then Kovalev still wins due to the Ward knockdown in round 2 because Ward certainly didn't win any round by 10-8.

Were you watching the right fight??
It was close, but Ward edged it over last few rounds.
We have some clueless Kov fans who think it was a robbery. It was one robbery Ward deserved the win but if it was split drcision or gone the other way dont think many complain. End of the day Kov didnt take advantage of the knockdown and Ward is the 1st fighter to show he aint afraid of him with the will to win then adjusted to him and found his timing and range. People forgetting Ward hasnt had much action the alst couple of years so if the rematch happens he only be better. A true champ and has to be no.1 pound for pound now.
Just rewatched it again with the audio on and the video off, there's just no way you can give this to Ward.

Mr C try watching it with both audio and video off, you'll still see that Kovalev was the clear winner of the fight
Kovalev was robbed.

Obviously, as you're both in denial.
It was close & Ward edged it.
Read about the result in braille tomorrow...
.....it still won't be the one you want.
Little more than a grab fest where a couple of decent jabs were enough to win some of the rounds. Not pleasing on the eye and once there would have been no way a champion would have lost his belts to a performance like Wards. Great winner nevertheless .
no robbery at all, close fight, closer than i thought to be fair... Kov did well tying up ward on the inside stopping one of Wards best attributes. Fatigue is what won Ward that fight i believe tho. Wards natural boxing mind took over once they both tired with Kovs decision making suffering as he tired and he also wasnt able to grapple as effectively as the fight wore on. He was able to control the distance from round 4 and after about round 7 also start to get off on the inside.
Kudo's to Hunter also rather than bombard Ward with tactical changes he did the one thing he had to and maintain the belief in Ward especially after the knockdown.
Defo should be a rematch tho fight was closer than i expected and Kov should get the chance to get his titles back (I assume their was a rematch clause?) However I think Ward will win more convincingly in a rematch, you tend to find the better boxer/thinkers do better in rematch's.
Thought John David Jackson was poor in the corner for Kov there wasnt much interaction with him at all and instead someone speaking Russian was talking (unless Jackson was telling a translator what to say before Kov got back to the corner)
I had Kov up maybe 1 or 2 rounds but I reckon if it had went 1 or 2 more Ward might of stopped him, Kov was out on his feet
