Chelseafc confront historic child abuse

It's good to see the club taking it seriously. Eventually.

I hope they got their bribe back.

Oh yes

This is not a dig, but if and i mean if. The allegations of hush money were true. Why would we be so silly?

It took place long before this administration took over plus money leaves a trail and is usually provable.

HC

enough with the point scoring. We don't know yet how far/deep this runs.

Only because that guy came forward, disgusting.

Very funny, I think your going to find that very few clubs will unsheathed in this matter.

I make no excuses for the previous way the club handled this historic claim, but the club have lifted the gagging order and today are seriously investigating the matter, which must applauded

Not point scoring, Flash. Would say similar no matter who was involved.

Yes, it should be applauded - but whoever thought paying the guy off was a good idea should have their position in the club questioned. If it happened.

If money has changed hands then as i say it's stupid for a various reasons.

First and foremost for trying to cover it up.

For not realising that the money leaves a trail

And really, for not going straigh to the FA with this. The allegations pre-date Ken Bates even so this administration would have had nothing to fear, or in a fair world, should not!

Look it's a merky subject , can you really fail to understand why the club didn't want begin a one man crusade into an historical matter from over 40 years ago particularly after the police refused to look into it?

Thing is we paid the hush money in 2015 so its this administration that is at fault.

We need to wait and see what comes of this and if the club took legal advice at the time but if it comes out we didnt investigate and tried to sweep it under the carpet, heads need to roll and we can have no complaints about whatever punishment comes our way.

Whitewall, it seems to me that the police and Fa had no desire to take the claims seriously.

The guy was happy to accept the 50k and not say anything which i find more annoying, should of told us to fk off & revealed all

Agreed.

But my argument is the current administration should have been savy enough to know that the allegations would not be a stain on their reputation so from that point of view should have reported it when approached. That's why i say "would have had nothing to fear".

I do however think this whole thing is going to end up in the courts with hundreds of people making a claim against lots of clubs.

Some will have good cause and some will be trying it on just like the many high profile cases we have seen in the past few years.

The extra £60m a season from sky may be a drop in the ocean compared to all the claims and legal fees.

But that doesnt mean we should pay hush money to sweep it under the carpet.

Everyone is at fault here.

Flash the victim had approached the police and they were not interested.

Like I have said I do make excuses for the club, but what were the club to do if the Fa and the police were not interested.

Iffy

I believe that.

But i think IF money has changed hands, the club have been stupid. This administration had nothing to hide from. It happened long before they came along.

Without wumming, what were they thinking? If its true then that's a clanger of catastrophic proportions and could even lead to criminal charges as knowledge of such a crime requires one to inform police.

Perhaps Chelsea thought it was an isolated incident that'd be better nipped in the bud? If it was coming out now, I think they'd be happy to inform police, but at the time the circumstances were different I guess.

This administration did have nothing to fear, and they may have investigated and found no evidence, we need to wait and see what happens.

But paying the money without a full investigation is serious and the current admin now has a lot to fear if they didnt.
