Nickleback get plenty of bad press, but if you really listen to their music then you could argue they're up there with the likes of Pink Floyd and Led Zep.

Gotta agree with Robb here, Greatteams is boring as fack.
I think The National are pretty highly rated in music circles so it's not really like they are underrated.

Fully agree. I guess the language barrier is a issue for most.

I love Dillinger.
Have you ever seen the Status Quo cover of 43% Burnt?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHTjR0uvF0E
It's a difficult one as some of these, like Shed Seven and the National are very highly rated. Underrated musically tends to be the other way in that bands that sold a lot are rated less due to being seen as commercial.
I'd put Blur on a par with Radiohead for example, but the latter were always critically lauded more.
Thumbs up for Yes, but don't think Tool are underrated either. In fact they are one of the most highly rated bands when it comes to Alt/Prog Metal, if not the most highly rated.
Which reminds me, Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson are extremely underrated when they have some of the most consistent but evolving catalogs in music.

I get your point, but if you ask the average person on the street, I bet a majority have heard of neither the National or Shed Seven.
Everybody knows Radiohead and Blur.
Underrated always a tricky one, because depends on whether we mean underrated by the critics, or by the public.
Eg critics will rave about Wilco, but they're never going to hit the top of the charts. Using the public measure I'd say
Sparklehorse
Interpol
Big Star
Teenage Fanclub
New York Dolls
Neutral Milk Hotel
All critics' faves, but unlikely to feature much on a "greatest songs of the 70s/90s/00s" compilation
Shed Seven and the National are very highly rated.
-----------------------
Are they?
I saw a documentary on bbc about the britpop days and they were very dismissive of bands like shed seven... saying that, after oasis, anyone with a guitar and long hair could make it into the top 10, using shed seven as an example.
On a side note... has anyone been listening to "Car Seat Headrest"?
The ballad of the costa concordia is a class song (great name too)

Only heard Interpol (incredible band) and NMH from that list (not too much into them) from that list. Will probably check out the rest. Agree though, Interpol are critic darlings but they really aren't known in mainstream circles. They do have a dark sound so that may explain it.
