some people write them off as the 'One Direction' of their day.
------------------------
The people you talk of tend to be the same age as One Direction.
They have also have never watched a black and white film.
Or bought ten Benson and Hedges.
Or actually listened to Revolver.

Yes they were.

Primarily because they didn't tour. I don't trust anyone who doesn't perform their music live.

Listen to Rubber Soul from start to fonish and I'd challenge anyone to say it's not a perfectyl contructed album, my favourite anyway to listen to in one go.

They may have started as a pop band, but even their early pop stuff is still far far superior to anything you'd get from the likes of one direction.

They evolved as muscians so much, look at Something as a song when compared to say love me do.

Whose the best Beatle? From me it's Geroge Harrison by a distance.

They did tour. Played to 100k in that baseball stadium for example.

They toured non stop for about 4 years, felt their sound quality was deteriorating since they couldn't hear themselves play, so stopped.

Yes they were over rated.

They were absolutely brilliant, particularly in the songwriting department.

They are one of the greatest groups of all time.

its got to be Ringo.... Harrison never made the transition from music to anything else, Ringo moved into TV after and showcased his talents there

A band who made the following songs simplay can't be overrated

Come together
Something
Get back
In my life
Twist and shout
Don't let me down
Nowhere man
Here comes the sun

And that's just off the top of my head

They stopped touring after the "bigger than Jesus" comment and because they were making music that they were unable to play live.

Doesn't alter the fact that they were producing some amazing music

I can honestly say there are only about ten Beatles songs I am interested in listening to.

That said, although they aren't my cup of tea, it'd be ridiculous to say they're overrated simply because of the number of records they sold, the reach of their music, their longevity and the number of other artists they've inspired over the years.

Twist and Shout is one of the great songs ever made

Anybody who doesn't like that song doesn't have a soul.

not a beatles original of course...

anyone here with sky or now tv,,,, check out the series "Sound Breaking" about the history of recording music. It is stunning and the 1st two episodes feature the beatles (and george martin) heavily.

They had some god awful songs, no doubt... But they made some truly beautiful and meaningful songs. They deserve every bit of praise they get.

Blackbird is probably my fave... Golden slumbers is beautiful. Most of my fave songs are McCartney's.

Didn't know that.

Not over-rated, no. They changed the face of popular music, individually were very talented, and as a group unmatched.
