Were the Beatles overrated?

Also just out of interest OP I'd say the likes of chuck Berry influenced far more than the Beatles.
----------------------
The beatles (and george martin) flipped music on it's head in terms of production and recording techniques.

One listen to "Tomorrow Never Knows" will show you the roots to many modern dance beats and hiphop style sampling.

All the blues and rock and roll kings played a big part, but had no where close to the influence on artists as the Beatles.

Remember seeing an interview with McCartney where he said Brian Wilson had the biggest influence on his career, and how he led the way In production and recording techniques

That's because Brian Wilson was a fecking genius. The highs of the Beach Boys (musically speaking) far surpassed that of the beatles. Pet Sounds

For example I personally cannot stand Coldplay
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is universal. Kinda like the hate for Nickleback.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Coldplay sold out 2 80k shows in Dublin in like 10 minutes, I think 2, maybe 1, anyway 1 is too many, worst band ever and Chris Martin is part of the holy trinity of musical SAPS

Martin
Bono
Bod Geldof

I'd love to fight the 3 of them at the same time, I'd win too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You cant slag Bono mate even though he is a

He will be President over here someday just after Miriam has had her stint.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Unfortunaley you're righthe probably will be president, still hate the cant though, like I'm tempted to go to Grafton St on Xmas eve and see him busking with that other idiot Glen Hansard and throw a bucket of shhiiitteee over them but I'd be lynched before I got to Naussau st!

Wilson couldn't cope with hearing a day in the life though to be fair. I agree he was a genius though.

hmmm.... I'm obsessive about music production, beatles and the beach boys and have never heard a quote like that. I know he said that "God Only Knows" was the perfect song (it is!) and that "Pet Sounds" made them raise their game for Sgt Pepper.

I don't think Paul would put him ahead of George Martin though as his biggest influence in terms of production. Brian himself was obsessed by Phil Spector, so I am not sure why Paul would point to Brian and not Phil, unless he was talking specifically about the songs or harmonies.

Paul was definitely the melody/harmony many of the beatles so it would make sense.

God Only Knows is so gorgeous. With and without instruments.

Seriously the best group ever. Wrote their own songs, Developed over the years. No one can touch them ever.

My wife walked down the aisle to God Only Knows. My brother was dubious due to the first part of the first line, but it worked

That and I had to argue with the registrar to use it due to having "god" in the title!

God only knows is brilliant. IMO Something by the Beatles is up there with it.

Beatles nearly took on Eric Clapton.

Imagine that!

Who would you say is the best guitar player in history? For me it's SRV.

Beatles didn't just change music, they changed the world, and that's a phackt for you. The world before the Beatles = square. After the Beatles -game on.

posted on 19/12/16

The only band that influenced the world more than the Beatles was The Rutles. The Rutles were amazing, but due to a time warp, most of the world missed out on them. Another phackt.

Neither of them. Not sure who I'd choose though although I have a few above them.
