Our net spend is about £45m, roughly the same amount as this year's parachute payment. Considering the disjointed unbalanced squad of misfits we had then we needed to do something radical.

Reckon we now have a good squad, apart from the goalkeeper. Whether Brucie is the manager to make use of it I have strong doubts. A good manager ought to be able to take this squad and get results, even if the players are new to each other; 1 point out of a possible 21 is truly cr*p.

Bruce's reputation is overdone. We're the biggest team he's managed; the only other team where he was able to bring in a lot of players was Sunderland, which ended in disaster. As well as his 4 promotions (with 2 clubs) he's had 2 relegations, with the same clubs. I think he has a limited approach which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't; tactics aren't his strength. I'd like us to get a decent end to the season but reckon we'll be desperately trying to stay up.

Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season. About time Leeds was back in the big time. Swansea were stupid sacking Monk.

Villa - the only team I've genuinely looked at their bench and thought s**t, we're in trouble.

Shows how poor a manager Bruce is to let them have such a poor run.

It goes to show money isn't everything, but where would they be if they hadn't spent?..

Board plays a big part, they know what they're doing things work, they don't than it gets no better, but better to sort that stuff out what we built on for gowd knows how long!..

The dead wood!..

Villa won't stay where they are to long, with Bruce or someone else, they'll come back faster then what its taken us!..

Oh, anyone noticed, we're still not back?.....so hopefully if they're waiting until next season they don't leave us behind!..

villa, who I find a strange club, never seen them as a big club

---

I forget who posted that. Must be someone born in the last year or two.

Villa not a big club??? You sure?????

Let's see.....

1. Over 100 seasons in the top flight.
2. Won top flight 7 times
3. Won FA cup 7 times
4. Won Champions league equivalent
5. Huge stadium with about 40 thousand capacity
6. Get over 30,000 each week.....

Not a big club?!

Ha ha ha!

Genuine football fans share those sentiments.

Villa were a big club, all those trophies dated back to pterodactyls roamed the skies. Should be in the premier league still, comfortably.

just did it with will hill walsall.

can only see them beating rotherham in their next 7 games or so. big trouble

Pretty sure most on here don't care - fair enough, but I personally don't want them to drop. No one's got a divine right and we're the classic example but the likes of Leeds or Villa struggling based on history, size of club and fan Base is not good for football to my mind.

...Having said that the position of the club and what league they find themselves in is usually what the owners / management of the clubs deserve - BUT NOT THE FANS!

ermmm, would be better for us if we in this league next year for them not to be.

but all my best mates are villa fans, and as amusing as it is, i still want to play them twice a season and enjoy the banter.

just think they are all over the shop and with lots of tough games coming up could find themselves in big trouble.

We have yet to play most of the bottom clubs. 3 wins and 3 draws over the rest of the season would probably make us safe.

Not that it is overly comforting [and heaven forbid I would try and comfort a v-nil-a fan after they've lost )] but [imo] you can always 'afford' to lose against the top/promotion-likely teams.
It is, of course, the bottom ones that put the pressure on should you lose.
The worrying thing about this division [and this applies to us as well as you] is are there three teams that much poorer than you/us?
