Prefer Amazon.

Don't think that example is a reason so, pretty sure Scorsese has been trying to get funding for it for over a decade but studios for some weird reason haven't wanted to.

But in general I think Netflix and Amazon can hopefully give Hollywood the kick up the a$$ it needs. Just because their main outlet is TV I see no reason why they can't also release films in cinemas, I'm sure directors such as Scorsese would hate it if their movies weren't made to be shown in that format.

The man in the high castle from Amazon is great, if a little confusing at times.

Once VR goes 8k... then netflix and Co will really hit the big time and the cinema will slowly die. Everyone will have an imax in their living room.

Amazon is another example - they bought the rights to the Ricky Gervais movie

The UK Netflix is so crap, the US one is better.

If they want to be Oscar nominated, which seems to be a big driving force in this, then it has to be in theaters.

Rob

Not sure, but I can't see Scorsese being the sort of director who would choose for it to be made for TV if Paramount was also an option. He's always been very open on his love of cinema.

TV is a completely different format, Woody Allen publically spoke about his mistake in agreeing to do a TV series for Amazon, he simply doesn't understand it.

Tarrantino on the other hand is quite different in his view and has often said that he thinks cinema is dead and that TV is the future. But when you see how his films have evolved you can see where he is coming from, his movies are far too long and I've always felt would suit the TV format far more. You can imagine him doing a series where in 1 episode he gets some cool 70s actor like Ryan O'Neal talking for a whole hour telling some stupid story in a bar.

Streaming is arguably the future of tv. Watching habbjts have changed- binge watching is now replacing legacy format of scheduled programs, due to the nature of on demand. The cinema 'experience' is not something that can be replicated in a home environment, but arguably the current format of tv.

The last time I went to the cinema (to see 'Sully', I literally had the place to myself.

Maybe it really is dying

To be fair, a film like that was only going to invite a certain audience.

We've watched Lala land and inferno of late...neither time was busy
I find the cinema very expensive and actually too loud at times...& I have 5.1 surround sound at home so I'm used to a certain amount of volume

I can't disagree with that, but there is still some value in the experience of going to the cinema. Rogue One on a screen the size of a house surrounded by a bunch of fellow minded nerds is a great viewing experience. Much better than watching it with wifefrom.

Even the mindless flicking through channels late at night and settling on watching something like Stallone and Banderas in Assassins (which i did in a hotel room last week) has an entertainment value. Cheesey moie, but not something that would likely pop up while scrolling through online options.

Big movies still makes huge amounts of money in cinemas, don't think there's much of an issue there.

I hadn't been to the cinema for ages until last year, and was actually surprised at how cheap it was.

AMC Manchester usually only costs me about a fiver. I'm sure I remember it being something like £8 in London 12+ years ago.

It can and is happening.... imax invested alot in VR.. whe i say that... i mean watching 2d films in a vr cinema... it will take a while yet... probably 5 years imo, but 8k VR will be like sitting in your own imax... much bigger, in fact.

I've prototyped 8k vr in a very basic format and it is close to real life

Funnily enough about to go see Logan now. Love going to the cinema. Not sure I'd get the same buzz if Logan was being released on Netflix tonight

The experience of the cinema is about so much more than watching on a big screen though.

It can be a social experience too. grab a bite to eat beforehand, head out for a beer or two afterwards. I'd rather not sit at home all the time, but thats the way the world is turning
