You've watched them both Robb, who do you think is better?

I don't think one is miles ahead of the other. As we can see in the OP it's not like one does anything so much better than the other one.

As a Darren said last night, Chelsea are where they are because of how clinical their striker has been. Perhaps had we had the same Herreras work would be more appreciated.

Kante wouldn't have made our attackers score more goals, and therefore having him wouldn't make us top.

Ji, I'm not convinced he's going to be a part of a midfield that can challenge for the CL. I think he can still play a part in the squad if we can reach that level, though.

Melts, yep I think he's a good all rounder but lacks the quality to be one of the very best, particularly in a specialised role that we will need.

Darren I agree that Herrera isn't a long term player for UTD. He simply doesn't offer enough.

This is something I have said consistently and I could understand why LVG didn't play him.

I couldn't, he played Rooney in midfield instead.

Kante is a better team player I think that's obvious but the gap isn't as huge as some make out. Ander has made massive improvements under Jose

It's difficult to say why one player is better than another. Why did SAF rate say Cole over Olé, Why do we think Scholes was better than Lampard did he have better stats?

Because it's more about how players fit in the overall system. Kante is right for the way Conte has set Chelsea up. It doesn't mean he's better or worse Ham Herrera though as he has a different purpose and role.

Kevin Nolan had better career stats than Andres Iniesta

Yeah Kante is the ultimate cog in a wheel. As a footballer he's limited, not very good on the ball at all, I'm convinced he wins the ball back so much because he always loses it , but his purpose in the team is just to win the ball and he's amazing at it.

Statistically this season in comparison to what i'd call the other top midfielders in europe (Modric, Kroos, Kante, Pjanic, Iniesta, Vidal etc) Pogba is the best in almost all of them, but no-one is seriously going to actually suggest he's been the best midfielder in europe this season, are they? just use your eyes.

My eyes tell me Herrera has been excellent this season. A huge shame he was benched so much last season

So he just fitted the system at Caen and Leicester then? I think there is more to it than that.

How about we say we're glad Herrera is having a fine season, but you don't compare ponies and thoroughbreds.

Out of interest, who do your eyes tell you needs to be changed?

Leicester he did, absolutely. I don't know about Caen as I didn't watch them.

It's not just about that, but to go the next step, then of course it's about squad balance, particularly with the margins at the top.

Shaw's attitude and mental approach seems to be a concern

Kante has arguably been the best player in the league this season.

The rest of the back four and midfield needs strengthening.

It's frightening how much money we've spent and how far off the strength of our team is to the best in Europe.

Just the left back Robb?

As in, Mourinho will clearly be looking to build a team capable of winning the league and the CL. Hed be looking at more than the left back position, surely?

Was a glib answer

For me we need...

A right back
A centre back (maybe two)
A left back if Shaw can't sort himself out
A CM
A striker once Ibra goes

people need to stop using the broken leg as an excuse for Shaw, it was 18 months ago, if he's not mentally strong enough to get over it, then he's not going to make it at United
