If they've selected people at random then the headline 'United draw lots....' is one that just isn't going to go away. Having seen the video though this United seems to attack better.

Nobody does have a justification of a complaint if all the rules have been followed, which seemingly at first glance, they have.

...................

I have had a quick scan over the UA rules and I cant find one where it says you will be beaten senseless and dragged off the plane by security guards.

I fully expect that Lawyers are cuing up to sign on this poor guy.

I would be surprised if UA ever let this go to court.

their contract gives them "the right to remove from the aircraft at any point" a passenger in this situation. to be honest, from the video i saw, i cannot see them doing much more than that - i can't actually see how the guy ends up all bloodied.

from the way some people are talking, you'd think the guards came on, punched the guy in the face a dozen times, hit with with those funky sticks that policemen carry, and then kicked him in the face for good measure.

for all that, it is an arguable case, and i imagine you are right that it never sees the inside of a courtroom.

Would be good to see the terms and conditions clause about the possibility of being knocked out at any given time.

Beaten senseless? Really? Dragged off is more accurate.

You missed the part where his noggin was whacked against an armrest, and blood was streaming from his mouth, I assume?

Might as well do away with all the small print and have one large statement saying 'after we have taken your money we can do as we please'.

To make it worse, the person taking his seat was a UA member of staff!!!

hee hee, i didn't see the need for the "not everyone will understand" at the top, but looking at the first 3 comments maybe it was necessary

What is the evidence or justification for such an aggressively sanctimonious attitude?

1) No. No. No.. Anyone has the right to complain about morally wrong behaviour, whether it is technically legal or not. It's called democracy and freedom of speech.

2) Much of what has been said to back up the "legal justification" is totally wrong. Read the link that Galv posted. If the legal points outlined are accurate then it seems UA does not have the law on its side in any case?

i see you've become an expert on US aviation law now that someone else has posted a link.

didn't hear you mentioning any violation of 14 CFR 250.2a earlier, if that FB post is accurate then i'm sure we'll all happily revise our opinions, but no need to get on your high horse about it.

a 69 year old man? Jesus Christ

Should not be relevant, just as being an Asian doctor either.
_______________

I agree with the rest of your comment but not this bit. Obviously discrimination is wrong but I think it makes more sense to inconvenience a younger person than an old man.

If they did that to my elderly parents I'd be facking livid...imagine if he had suffered a heart attack?

Simply, no one should be treated like that in these circumstances. Regardless of the rules and regs, there were alternatives to sorting this without a bleeding passenger ending up being international news.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree totally, but like to the people saying "Oh legally this is alright, small print, blah blah blah" how can they be OK with something like this happening to an old man?

I never claimed to bwe an expert. Try looking at my strategic use of the words "if" and "then".

You are familiar with this grammatical construct, yes?

See...anyone can be sarcastic.
