What now for Josh Onomah? #UPDATE#

Haven't been impressed by him during any of the appearances he's made. There isn't even a single move or pass that stood out for me.

I'm going to say that he's probably only good enough for a Championship/ lower Premier League side because it's what I said about Kane and look how that turned out.

You and me both with Kane.

I think he looks like a boy playing with men at present. I would love him to get a year at a couple of clubs down the pyramid, but I do not see Poch doing so

From his brief cameo appearances I have seen of him , I don't think his good enough, hope I'm wrong.

how old is he now?

This season has been a waste for him as far as I can see. Sitting and watching Winks jump ahead of him in the queue when he could be out on loan playing games and gaining experience. When he has played I've seen nothing of note from him. A couple more years of this and he could turn into someone like Carroll or Lingard - people calling him 'young' when he's not, he's just inexperienced and distinctly average.

I don't agree with Poch's idea for the youths.

There have been rumours at Rangers, that we are trying to get him on loan next season.

I think we need to find something for both Onomah and KWP both real talents stifled a bit by our policy.

Poch sadly does not use them, they get very few U23 games therefore they are in limbo.

On the subject of Onomah he has everything, i love his movement, i love his reading of the game.

I think Onomah gets a raw deal everyone raves for Marcus Edwards yet what have they truly seen? Ive seen Edwards go missing many times, i would even regard Edwards currently overhyped.

Onomah is judged based on appearances out of position. Even out of position watch him though, watch what he is trying to do. It might not work but watch what he is trying watch the position he picks up, watch how he is always calling for the ball. I find Onomah so footballing intelligent.

The boy is good give him time. I said the exact same about Kane. On here on twitter raved about him, i rave for Onomah in the same way as kane.

The same goes for KWP and CCV.

Just give them time guys.

The comparisions of Winks by the way both winks and onomah have been earmarked for years. There is no surprise at this stage. both trained with the first team for about 3 years.

Look at the difference a few games can do for a youth player.

Winks now looks premier league quality, Onomah will get there too.

I agree with you LLM. Onomah is a real talent and by all accounts Poch really rates him.

Id like to see him get some minutes ahead of Sissoko but it seems the French man is in the shop window ready for a summer move away.

I just hope he gets chances in CM and not out wide.

Don't rate him at all. Mainly because he has shown nothing to warrant us rating him. I have no doubt he's talented but I cannot even work out where he plays or what he's good at. Poch seems to like him but don't see him making it at Spurs. He's way behind Harry winks. Assuming he's a Cm. And winks is way off the standard of dembele.

Can only judge him on what we've seen. If he's a B2B midfielder then he's either got to adapt to being a DLP of sorts or into an attacking mid like Dele. Call me naive but how do you adapt to playing in a new role... by never playing?

I'm not having a go at him and I'm not saying Poch is clueless, but I don't see how and when he gets to put anything into practice.

From those who follow the youth teams it seems he's basically too good for the U23 but not good enough for the PL at the moment and is in limbo? Exactly why the championship is right for him and his development.

I thought he looked really promising last season actually, and same with the game this season when he scored.

Has struggled ever since though.

I quite like Poch's methods with the youth with regards to training them the 'Poch' way, but I hope he realises this wont necessarily work with every player we have. Onomah desperately needs a spell at a lower division football-playing club (Brighton next season would be perfect) to prove what he is about.

There was a Fighting C**k youth special, with Windy and a couple of other dudes who watch our youngsters regularly and they addressed the 'issue' of him needing to find his best position.

They were all in total agreement he is a central midfielder, and had played there at every level and excelled. Not an attacking midfield, a ten, a winger or whatever other variant behind the striker.

Until we see him appear regularly there it is harsh to judge him at all really

He had a chance in the league cup game away at Klanfield and was dreadful, he showed nothing to suggest he will make it at Spurs.

Of course, it is way too early to write off a young player though, after just a few chances in the first team.

We have to trust Poch and the coaches judgement, I hope he makes it, there is nothing like producing your own top class players.

I've completely written him off...much like I did Kane

He was played in one of the wide forward positions up there wasnt he? In a scratch side.

It is not his position is what you have to consider. We would not judge Dembele, Wanyama or Winks as centre midfielders after a few appearances in the 3 behind the centre forward

##UPDATE ##

Josh Onomah is currently earning rave reviews for England at the U20 World Cup, playing in his preferred central midfield position.

Watched the game V Korea and he was great. Probably should have got 3 or 4 assists if our strikers could score.

Always impressed by him as a B2B CM but looks lost as a wide.

Honestly don't know what to do with him as he's got the talent imo but just can't show it.

A loan makes sense but that normally the exit for players under poch.

posted on 28/5/17

Would be nice for Poch to be flexible with this one, give him the loan opp and if he excels bring him back to the club.

Would be ideal for a team like Bournemouth.

posted on 28/5/17

Yeah a good loan would be perfect.

Poch has been talking him up, so perhaps he will feature more - could be our breakthrough player a la Winks
