1979, Smashing Pumpkins, what a tune.
Pixies, Smiths, Ramones (early stuff) and bass drum of death are all superb but by my reckoning the Fall have made 20 excellent albums, who else can get close to that. Wheres Mark E. Smiths lifetime achievement award?
The Black Keys
Not the latest album it's a bit too Radio 1'ish but their original few albums sound really good, so many songs too lots more than you'd think to work through.
The neighbourhood are worth a listen for guitar music.... Carseat headrest too
Yep seen Sigur Ros a few times, fully agree Busby.
Saw them in Leeds, quite a small venue but it created a real wall of sound.
It's hard where to start given that list in terms of recommendations. The National probably, then related artists on Spotify!
Nickleback
Underrated and for some reason people think it's 'cool' to diss them despite Chad Kroeger being one of the best all round musician and song writers around.

Agree, some great tracks, under-rated band. Some great lyrics and some catchy songs.
Gonna give Alice in chains a listen to (mainly because I seem to like bands that have Alices in them!!!); any album? I have a habit of going for their first or second because I find they're the best.
Also, Sheer Mag - I don't think they have an album out yet, but 3 EPs and they're a really cool band.

If you like the Breeders try a band called Belly... It was formed by Tanya Donelly who originally formed the breeders with Kim Deal
Just FYI about Nickleback I was joking, I think they're complete trash and I hope Busby was wumming too.
I guess we're not allowed to mention Lost Prophets anymore......
And yeah, I agree that Stickleback get unfairly slated. I never understood why it's so cool to say they're garbage, but similar bands (for me at least, such as Foo Fighters) are amazing.
Foals are worth a listen too, top album.

No, I like them
Big bands that I never liked, and actually get annoyed by their music;
Greenday
Foo fighters
RHCP

For me, Dirt is the best album
Having mentioned the Foals I'm not listening to them, so good!!!!
For stuff similar to Explosions In The Sky:
Oceansize
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Mogwai
Granted none of these are that 'modern' but all worth a listen.
Arcade Fire?
Mumford & Sons if you're feeling something more folky.

I'd take out foo's. Green day no time for, especially the newest stuff, rhcp can be hit or miss, some brilliant stuff, but some poor.
Foo's I can always listen to though.

Hate Mumford and sons with a passion.
Godmachine. They were pretty good too. And only did 2 albums so won't take long to listen to everything
Pearl Jam too, and Stone Roses missing from your list in the OP.
