Straw man argument alert
------
Haha

Be honest though, has Rooney done anything over the last 3 or 4 years that has impressed you?

I always had a sense of belief that he may come back after summer break and be super fit etc but it just doesn't happen.
Its not hard to get in a gym if you're a pro footballer.

That is the most disappointing part.

Burnt himself out for United

Who knows though, class is permanent maybe a new challenge, playing regularly for fans that appreciate him will see him recoup his form.

Nope. Won't happen. He's awful.

Running around like he has since 16 has ruined him physically

What a load of tosh

Rooney is finished.
He would not improve a league two side. Never mind top ten in the premiership.

If he was a 🏇. He would be sent to pasture

He would struggle in the championship ffs

I attend plenty of Championship games. He wouldn't.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah he would and if you do watch plenty of championship games you know many players from the prem would. Different game

He wouldn't. You're speculating based on an opinion you've formed to validate your point, despite the basis of your argument being flawed.

Rooney would be fine in the Championship. Some of (most of) the strikers and #10's are appalling by PL standards.

The overwhelming majority of first team PL players wouldn't struggle in the Championship. That's why they're playing in the PL.

Joey Barton excelled in the Championship, and Rooney is still twice the player he is.

Huddersfield, for example... widely considered the most exciting team to watch this season.

Neither of their main two strikers (Quaner and Wells) are anywhere near as good as Rooney in terms of passing, finishing or movement.

I should know - I've been to over 10 of their games this season and watched them on TV.

w@nky OP

obviously rooney is not the player he was at 28, but then few are

the saddest part is though that rooney is still the best (ie most effective) midfielder the club has - mata, mkhit and pogba are the only ones that come close in that department.

that is not to say that rooney is still 'world class' etc., only that the club have failed to find somebody as good as or better

it is very fashionable to knock older more established players and at the same time eulogise over younger ones. no real problem with that as I kinda understand the mindset that creates that falsehood. But to me it far more important to analyse and understand contributive capacity. If an older player is better than the younger one (or vice versa) then they get selected. simple really

united's problems this year have been down to a manager being too scared of the medias views of rooney when juxtaposed with martial and rashford. That plus jose's blinkers over mata and bastian causing them to be sidelined and the inept Herrera & lingard being preferred

Rooney in the same sentence as finishing movement and passing?

Don't make me laugh mate

I know, it's totally absurd to imply that the record goalscorer for Manchester United and England has the capacity to finish chances or find himself in goal scoring positions.

Oh, wait...

You were doing ok for a while there but in what way has Herrera been inept? He has played very well this season and seems to have adapted to a role very well that the manager has asked him to fill.

Think i'll heed the advice of Mark Twain here and bow out gracefully from this pointless debate.
