I think the few pundits who had a bitchy moan about the way the club decided to manage his last game for us are shameful and bitter.
It is entirely up to each club how they decide to celebrate these type of occasions. There is no definitive right or wrong way.
Savage and Crooks ....two bitter jealous mugs.
---------------------------
Rumour has it that the substitution and guard of honour were JT's idea. Wouldn't surprise me if it is true.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah that's why there rumours, cause gullible people like you believes in anything
---------------------
I have just actually read that JT has admitted it. He has said that he had to negotiate with Conte to agree to it and then get Moyes to agree that they would put the ball out on the 26th minute. That is embarrassing.

------------------------------
Because he has said so:
John Terry’s 26th-minute send-off to end his Chelsea career was his idea, as David Moyes revealed Sunderland agreed to kick the ball out to allow the substitution to go ahead.
The Chelsea captain, who is leaving the club this summer, started his final game before being replaced by Gary Cahill in the first-half, with the time on clock matching the number 26 on his back.
Terry received a standing ovation and a guard of honour as he left the pitch and in his post-match press conference Sunderland boss Moyes said the visitors agreed to kick the ball out for a throw-in to allow the substitution to go ahead at the correct time.
He said: “We knew it was coming and we agreed to put the ball out.”
Terry revealed that Moyes wasn't the only Premier League manager he needed to persuade about his exit, as he negotiated with manager Antonio Conte to play the 26 minutes.
“I had a discussion with the manager – I think he wanted to get the boys that didn’t play on Monday night against Watford and give them a run out. So I kind of negotiated with him to play 26 minutes and come off. It was a compromise between the two of us," he told Sky Sports.
“It was very important to find the right solution to celebrate a great champion, a great legend for this club, I think he deserved to start the game,” Conte said.

If you don't care what I think, why are you replying?
Because I can't stand people like you spewing their biles.
I'm not overstating how good he was. Terry at his prime was a world class CB who won the pfa player of the year award and got in several Fifa world XIs whilst being widely considered to be the best CB in the world.
He also had longetivity that no other CB in premier league history has had. A decade after winning the pfa player of the year award as a premier league winning captain, Terry won the premier league again as captain in 14/15 while again being considered the best CB in the pl that season.
On top of that John Terry is a great captain and leader. I know it's hard for a man Utd fan especially to even consider the idea that another club has something better than them, but Terry is quite clearly the best ever pl centre back.
It was something agreed between Terry and Conte and then Moyes................and so what? Has some long standing international protocol been broken here? Are the two clubs in breach of rules?

What are you going on about? I just think that it is a bit embarrassing that Terry had to negotiate with his manager to sub him off after 26 minutes and agree it with the opposition manager so that he could stop a game and be the centre of attention. I'd have just waited until the end of the game personally.

“We had to find the best solution to celebrate and make all the supporters involved. He deserved this guard of honor. It was great and I think the players recognise his career at Chelsea.”
-----------------------
I think that he did deserve the guard of honour. But stick him on the last 20 minutes or so and let him have it at the end when the game has finished. It was a bit cringeworthy in the middle of the game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So who cares what you think. He has been at Chelsea since the age of 14

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hoe do you know it was Terry's idea you pillock
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was something agreed between Terry and Conte and then Moyes................and so what? Has some long standing international protocol been broken here? Are the two clubs in breach of rules?
What is the problem with this? Can a club not have control over its own decision making on how to celebrate the end of a career of one of its most celebrated players?
Were we supposed to have consulted United fans first for approval?

I always feel he doesn't get enough credit because of certain non football matters, but by far the best CB in pl history for me.
------------------------
Rio was better. Something that Terry himself admitted, when he said every other CB was just trying to reach Rio's level. Stam was better for me and Vidic was his equal. And that is just United players. I'd also say that McGrath was better than him. Still a top CB though, if not particularly likable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Excuse me? You think man Utd had not one but two CBs better than Terry and a third equal? I know you're a man Utd fan, but please. at least try and not be biased.
---------------------
Sorry, but you are simply overstating how good he was.

Fack off
Take vidic or rio all day long
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Terry > Rio/Vidic
----------------------
Not even Terry, one of the biggest narcissists you'll ever meet, believed that. He openly said that Rio was the best and they everyone else was just trying to reach his level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Terry praising a team mate wow. What do you expect him to say?

Terry has played at the highest level at the age of 36. When did Rio and Vidic career end ?
-----------------------------------
Does that fact that Giggs played at an older age than Pele mean that he was the better player? Don't be silly. I think Rio was still playing at 36 anyway.

What are you going on about? I just think that it is a bit embarrassing that Terry had to negotiate with his manager to sub him off after 26 minutes and agree it with the opposition manager so that he could stop a game and be the centre of attention. I'd have just waited until the end of the game personally.
