‘I told you that it was very important to find the right solution to celebrate a great champion and a legend of the club. He deserved to start the game and then to have the substitution in the 26th minute He deserved this celebration because he wrote his Chelsea history. I wish him and his family the best in the future. For me and the club it will be a great loss because he helped me a lot on and off the pitch this season. Now we must respect his decision.
‘I think this idea of my players (the guard of honour) was a great one, to recognise an important career and a legend of the club, one of the best defenders in the world. He deserved this.’
Terry is explicitly the best CB the league has seen. I am just glad we were lucky to have him at Chelsea!

Not even Terry, one of the biggest narcissists you'll ever meet, believed that. He openly said that Rio was the best and they everyone else was just trying to reach his level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Terry praising a team mate wow. What do you expect him to say?
--------------------------------
He didn't have to be quite so complimentary about Rio. All he had to say was that he if fantastic defender or something. But he went beyond than and said that he was THE best around. Why would he bother going that far if he didn't believe it? Rio was on a different level to Terry for me. There is no shame in that, as Terry was a top defender. Not quite what I would call world class though.

I'm not overstating how good he was. Terry at his prime was a world class CB who won the pfa player of the year award and got in several Fifa world XIs whilst being widely considered to be the best CB in the world.
He also had longetivity that no other CB in premier league history has had. A decade after winning the pfa player of the year award as a premier league winning captain, Terry won the premier league again as captain in 14/15 while again being considered the best CB in the pl that season.
On top of that John Terry is a great captain and leader. I know it's hard for a man Utd fan especially to even consider the idea that another club has something better than them, but Terry is quite clearly the best ever pl centre back.
------------------------------------
I don't ever recall Terry being regarded as the best CB in the world. Rio was better than him when Terry has at his peak, as he admitted himself. Then he lost a yard and started getting turned a bit too easily.
Rio had just as much longevity and won the PL decades apart at United. He was also in 6 PL teams of the year to Terry's 4.
Not sure that a great captain does what he did to Wayne Bridge. He was a great leader on the pitch though, no doubt about that.
