I think Griezmann is a better player than Lacazette and we don't know how much he will cost anyway yet. I honestly can't think of a better attacker we could get that's available, Aubameyang potentially but he seems set on Spain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
3x as good?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do you really think transfer fees are as simple as 'player x costs twice as much as player y so has to be twice as good to justify that fee'?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyway you want to look at it/justify it.
Ag is neither worth 3x more or worth £86 million.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's a world class player who has a release clause of exactly that.
He's undoubtably a top 10 in the world player (I think top 5 but hey ho)
What do you think the costs of the rest of the top 10 would be?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He scored 26 goals in 53 games.
Not top five material.
And I don't care how much the other top ten score tbh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So assuming Griezmann is a top 10 player please tell me the assumed transfer fees for the rest.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, I don't care how much they cost, it makes no difference to overpaying for Ag.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So tell me what you think a fair fee for a guy who has..
Scored important CL goals to get his side to the final against Barca and Bayern
Was the top scorer in the Euros and scored twice against the world champions in the semis
Has scored nearly as many goals as Neymar over the past few years
Is at his peak at a club who don't need to sell
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He isn't worth a penny over 50 mil.
If atleti don't want to do business at that sort of money. Walk away. Go elsewhere. Plenty of fish in the sea.

We got good deals for baily and miki. It's not beyond the realms of possibility to secure a player for a good price.

As soon as he was....
And Jesus could not displace him when both were fit.
So there we have it.
Football transfers are fecking bizarre.
£30m? Bargain.
£50m? Absolutely insane!
It is all so far detached from reality that I really don't see why people get so worked up about them. I suspect it's more to do with pride than anything
They were being rotated, or playing together up front in a 3-5-2...
If you look at their last 10 games, when Jesus was fit, aside from one game when he was returning from injury he either started up front on his own or alongside Aguero.
The fact is that every season Aguero has injury issues.

i don't know if people do get so worked up, but there is an understandable level of scepticism about united's spending, because it has been so bad for so long now, and we have a very well earned reputation for being somewhat casual with out cash.
someone like perisic at £40-45m would be the 3rd most expensive wide man in the PL, and the two more expensive buys (sterling and sane) were both early 20s, with plenty of time to improve and some sort of resale value at the end of it.
transfer fees tend to be forgotten relatively quickly once the player starts to play football - well, except for pogba/alli, ie the real outliers - but over the summer we're not going to have too much else to talk about.

Well no but he is still better and you can guarantee if we went in for Lacazette the price would go up anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We got good deals for baily and miki. It's not beyond the realms of possibility to secure a player for a good price.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mkhi was in the last year of his contract and Bailly was quite expensive for an unproven defender.

So who was up front all those games that Jesus started that Aguero missed?
And when they played together, who played up front and who played out wide.
The definition of taking someone's place is not doing it whilst they are out injured for a few games. It's while they are fit and able.
So yes, you were wrong, move along now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They have been rotated far more than they've plyed together...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
When aguero has been fit, he's played up too. It really is as simple as that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He was bench warming every league game until Jesus got injured....

I think Griezmann is a better player than Lacazette and we don't know how much he will cost anyway yet. I honestly can't think of a better attacker we could get that's available, Aubameyang potentially but he seems set on Spain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
3x as good?

Baily was la liga proven. A superior league.
Don't think that qualifies as unproven.
Even with a year left we still got a £40 million point player for a little over £25m

When not fully fit.

He still plays and contributes enough to justify his inclusion.

i don't know if people do get so worked up, but there is an understandable level of scepticism about united's spending, because it has been so bad for so long now, and we have a very well earned reputation for being somewhat casual with out cash.
someone like perisic at £40-45m would be the 3rd most expensive wide man in the PL, and the two more expensive buys (sterling and sane) were both early 20s, with plenty of time to improve and some sort of resale value at the end of it.
transfer fees tend to be forgotten relatively quickly once the player starts to play football - well, except for pogba/alli, ie the real outliers - but over the summer we're not going to have too much else to talk about.
