Yes, you know, the current transit routes where a lot of them die trying to get to Europe.

But the more generous you are, the more word gets around about this — which in turn motivates more people to leave Africa.

'Germany cannot possibly take in the huge number of people who are wanting to make their way to Europe.' 

Nothing to do with fixing Africa or keeping Africans safe.

This is what I read into it.
Make it easier for them to stay in their own country. By doing this, you stop the slum conditions that refugees and migrants have suffered in the not to distant past.
Some travel halfway across the world, losing family members along the way, only to find themselves in exactly the same position, but not understanding the language.

Have a word with yourself fella.

Did the P.O. explain why the actual comments are a disgrace?

I'd post my opinion here but it seems by the number of deleted comments and the implication in the op that Bill Gates should not be allowed to say what he's said, I don't think I'll bother saying what I think, it may be disgraceful!

If it meant less immigrants then damn right. The country is bulging as it is.

Don't see what's wrong with what Gates said. The more migrants you take, the more your economy will be pulled from an equilibrium state and it'll make everyone poorer in the long run. Plus taxes and all that too.

Don't see how anyone can not see the obviousness of what he's saying. The economies across Europe have almost no growth. The welfare budgets are enormous. Lower skilled jobs are being filled by educated people as automation ravages the workplace. The last thing these countries need is more people. Especially people who will occupy the low skilled sector. This is all aside from the cultural and security issues. These pathways need to be locked down to stem the flow so that adequate quotas of immigration can be attained. Anything less than that is lunacy and the people who wear their hearts of their sleeve on this issue need to think rationally.

Shocked so many are anti immigration. Especially when it concerns poor, desperate people.

Greg - nothing. But his concern isn't for the Africans. It's for the White Europeans who might have to live alongside Africans.
