I like Sancho for that reason as well, not as good as Rashford but he was pretty good a few years ago playing in that "two sprinting behind Kane" role

Yeah I don’t think he’s pulled up any trees for England but he does offer that different threat in behind.

We’ve got too many players that like to come to the ball and have the play in front of them. That’s not just a problem for the counter but also breaking teams down. Even Spain used to struggle when they didn’t have enough players running off the defence.

Yeah players running in behind is grate. So many fans are obsessed with the coming to the ball short type players as well, call themselves MartialSZN and hero worship any attacker who has decent close control even though they want everything to feet

Annoyingly we miss Martial as a cf coming to the ball.

Fred the Tory snowflake’s reactions this week have been amazing. Look at his last one on the anti royal protedter thread.

I hate Martial and everything he stands for

hes an absolute f*ckwit, one of the most laughably stupid on here

He reckons he’s not a Tory because he’s no longer a member of the party, even though he still votes for them.

Unsurprisingly, it’s been difficult to discuss the Queen and Monarchy in a sensible fashion. As someone that’s always viewed it through the prism of history, I’ve been ambivalent about it for years.

I think it’s possible to frame the argument in a way that touches upon why people in this country are pro Monarchy without sounding completely reeetarded, but most of the people that vociferous defend it are stupid Tories. That conflict has always been there.

It’s interesting how Scandinavia have managed to approach the issue with a society that has more left leaning attitudes (though apparently not recently in Sweden). But I don’t know enough about their system to comment.

The Monarchy here has been a huge part of the nationalist story, that emotional sense of England and Britain and how the Monarchy represents it is an interesting one, and one that is obviously propagated by the elite, however, it’s something that the English people have always seemed to inherently prefer.

I guess a lot of it is to do with the relationship between us and Europe, it’s always been a complicated one and the relationship between the people, parliament and the Monarch is unique to England.

Yeah I find diehard royalists really odd people - funnily enough the royal family is everything the Daily Mail teaches its followers to hate (pedo gangs, immigrants succeeding in our country, benefit scroungers etc) yet people are so massively brainwashed into the royal family that they can see know wrong.

I'm indifferent towards it all but think it should be reduced a bit

Funny how right wingers want to take away benefits from the poor, but are only too happy for the Royals to get benefits

posted on 15/9/22

Yeah those people are mental.

I find the general feeling towards it an interesting one. Was listening to a podcast recently about genetics and how social constructs can redesign them so we inherit certain social traits.

I think the predisposition to a Monarchy in this country probably falls into this, there’s plenty of other nations that share that culture. Plus it usually takes a shock to the system for that culture to change. The psychology around it is fascinating actually.

A few more scandals and I think it'll get phased out - I think the fact that the Queen had so much favour really helped the Royal Family survive the Andrew nonce-sense.

posted on 15/9/22

Yeah definitely. It’s been commented on what s grate job she’s done over the years over holding the institution together. Particularly after the scandals with with Edward VIII. Though it’s a huge point of contention, particularly regarding his association with the Naaazi’s. Apparently America have played quite a big roll in keeping that under wraps, despite the mountains of evidence they have on him.

*role

Spelling like Forza, there.

nah too many people still love them

Think of all the N Irish Unionists and their cousins in Scotland who support Rangers

Then there's all the knoobs in the little town and villages in Southern England (the sort who vote Tory no matter what)

All these types would be up in arms if the Monarchy was ever abolished

posted on 15/9/22

That’s subject to change over the next few generations, though. Younger generations don’t have nearly the same love for the Monarchy as the older generations do. And as Edin says, if there’s a few scandals that would start to really change public perception.

My Mum's BF is royal mad and its hilarious/ridiculous - he just can't see anything wrong with them. I've wound him up to no-end over the Prince Andrew stuff.

You actually could see the house I grew up in on that live feed of ol' Queeny going through the Aberdeen deeside valley. As I said on here previously, most people I know find their territorial domain in the Scottish highlands relatively annoying.

Always found it weird that so many Scottish people love them.

Lowland Scots usually of Anglo-Saxon descent
The ancestors of the N Irish Unionists

It's these type of Scots who love the Monarchy and the Union

ie. Rangers supporters

You get plenty of highland tories who obssess over the queen. I think people would be surprised how right wing the North East of Scotland is.

posted on 15/9/22

Never knew people in the Highlands were like that tbh

The whole area got an excessive injection of money due to oil & gas which caused people to lose their heads.

On a complete tangent, there aren't many players in recent history who have gone from so massively overrated to massively underrated in recent history as Jack Grealish.

I’d actually say it’s Harry Maguire.
