Liverpool’s academy isn’t very good.

It’s something like % of touches/passes in oppo third
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tbf I think the breakdowns of where possession is in the thirds is quite useful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But I don’t think it says anything much other than ‘this team counters, this team dominates territory or this team sucks’.

It’s probably not pointless but I think it has any correlation to results

Maybe, but I think you can infer some things. Where teams are averaging more possession can indicate how good they are at maintaining possession and sustaining attacks, for example. I don’t tend to look too much into stats like those for a correlation of results.

It's like xg, it gives you a rough idea of how a game goes. You can infer certain trends about teams if you combine them.

But xG trends directly correlate towards an outcome (results have always matched xG over performance for example). Whereas you could be the greatest counter attacking side of all time, winning the treble, and have terrible tilt stats - it doesn’t really correlate.

I guess like Daz says it just supports a point of ‘this team dominates territory and possession’. Without saying they are any good at creating chances with that (like Tuchel’s Chelsea)

Yeah, so if you combine running xg in a game with field tilt for example (there's a guy who does it for arsenal, and it's pretty good imo), you get an idea of which teams are best at dominating territories while creating chances. You'd obviously need to follow it over a certain amount of games to get a good picture. Arsenal's for example have been very encouraging this season.

I think it's a decent indicator of how a team plays.

I was talking about the breakdown of possession by thirds. Just as an example, under LVG our possession stats were high but it was mainly in the first and second thirds.

Agree that field tilt doesn’t really reveal anything close to what xg would.

Meanwhile, over in the Liberian league, Jubilee claimed their first win of the season, with a sound 3-0 beating of Invincible Eleven, who remain winless this season.

Invincible Eleven

what a name

I think I like the name Heaven Eleven more.

Heaven Eleven are second from bottom and also winless so far.

They used to be called Heaven Seventeen when there were five subs on the bench.

Uefa to abandon plan for 32-team European Championship so 24 teams for Euro 2028 (which could be in UK + Ireland).

Get in, can FIFA do the same for the World Cup

Should make it 16 teams again.

16 teams was perfect for the Euros

kept the quality high, and nice and symmetrical
4 groups of 4, top 2 qualify for the quarters
nice

Made the qualifiers better as well.

posted on 22/9/22

Though that’s from my perspective. It’s probably better for lesser nations now that there’s more of a chance of them qualifying.
