Yeah I just meant this is our "plan A" with us sometimes rotating system.

Carra said the following, do we agree?

We would definitely have Kane, Walker and Pickford. Then Sterling & Rice would be dependent on which
team and opposition

Sterling, Kane, Pickford and Walker would. Rice would be lucky to get in the squad.

I'm thinking Rice more of a squad balance issue, but I guess the issue was more playing Gerrard & Lampard rather than there not being a suitable DM

I’m looking more at the 04/06 period with my comment. There’s probably a few more that may get into the team for the earlier period. Those squads did lack depth and were missing quality in a few areas. I think they had more/better stars, however.

Even when talking about Kane, and you know how much I like him, I don’t think he has performed on the very biggest stage like many of the 04/06 team did.

For what it’s worth, many of this current side have performed better for England. Ashley Cole is the only one that has performed like the back five have in tournaments, and even then I don’t think he ever had a tournament as good as Shaw did at the Euros.

Biggest stage as in CL tournaments/FA Cup finals etc I assume as opposed to for England?

You are right and it’s funny, only really Cole, Becks and to an extent J*das kept the same level for England at tournament level.

Yeah I’m talking about club level.

Thats fair, I think people underrate his performances in some of the bigger games but he definitely hasn't grabbed a game by the scruff of the kneck and won it for us (obvs lol)

Peks, how’s the Spain game?

posted on 27/9/22

Its funny, I wanted Southgate out after the Spain 3-2 win because I realised that game he had no idea how to control a game. I thought the WC performances were largely lucky on his part and his tactics were shocking but he got by on vibes+set pieces.

In the Euros he was genuinely very good, playing the experienced Trippier beside Mings as a calm head was clever.
His use of mixing it up from back 4/5 depending on the opposition was effective and occasionally caught the opposition out.
His safe set-up meant we were rarely overrun by the opposition and it played to our strengths in countering at time (maybe he was too cautious vs Scotland).
The only thing he really did wrong was very poor in-game management against an Italy side whose mid-game tactics won them the tournament.

I'm not sure he is good enough, mind, but I'm not on board with the hatred of him that everyone else is obsessed with.

I think we will do well enough this tournament as long as the Maguire situation gets sorted out, and there are no bad injuries.

GOAT striker Morata won it for them it seems

Yeah I agree with that. I think his inability to get the midfield right is still a big black spot on his management, though. I know the options aren’t the best, but he’s not really managed to get a competent midfield three working in all his time, which should have been possible - he’s not given it enough time to develop due to selection.

I think we’ll struggle at the world cup, we’ll do well to reach the quarters because the group isn’t in the same mindset going into this.

A friend of mine made a good point when I spoke to him the other day. He said aside from the form of some of the key players, what’s lacking compared to the Euros is there’s no players that are coming into the group to add fresh new impetus - we had Saka, Mount, Foden, Shaw, Phillips, Rice, Grealish, Bellingham, Chilwell, DCL and even Coady adding something new to the group.

Now it’s a bit stale and the same players aren’t performing like they were.

typical spain performance in most ways
lots of passing, little penetration or shots on goal
a dodgy moment by simon losing concentration when passing out almost gifting portugal a goal

saved by portugal trying to play out the draw they needed

they started sitting too deep last 20 minutes

one good deep cross by caravajal, williams with a run and a header across goal, morata tap in from 2 yards

Thats a fair point, but its the first WC tournament in a while where I think England fans arent hyping up the team at all, maybe as a result we'll do good bizarely.

Brazil absolutely smashed Tunisia today, they are my favourites for the WC I think. The attacking unit plays so ridiculously well together - I think Richarlison may be the best striker for Brazil since Ronaldo.

Portugal are such a sheit NT to watch though, always have been. Played for about 20 years as if they are coached by Jose

People still hype up our players, though. Everyone is just blaming Southgate and Maguire for everything, it’s bizarre.

That reeetarded Dutch Liverpool fan said something funny the other day. He said England have a lot of attacking talent. Shame Maguire is starting.

How do people with brains reach these conclusions?
