Yeah mental when you consider he’s a bloody pole vaulter as well.

Well I know a lot of those guys started out in more traditional track & field running events and found out they excelled at another event.

He probably was a 100m sprinter before a pole vaulter

Yeah I know that’s common, but that wasn’t the case with him. Was just reading his dad was a pole vaulter, so he started at four and set the world age record for a seven year old.

Makes it all the more impressive that he ran that time.

Run up speed is a pretty essential part of pole vaulting though.

It is still bleedin' impressive, though. I'd never have thought they'd be THAT fast, but perhaps none are as fast as Duplantis and that's one of several reasons he has such a huge advantage over the rest.

I checked the Brazilian Serie A standings a few days ago and seem to recall they were struggling quite badly.

(On a side note, unheralded Fortaleza were second. They caught my eye a couple of years ago with an incredible run in the second half of the season.
