I think with Lukaku you must appreciate that he gets better and i must ssy his finishing is actually his strongest point along with his ability to bully defenders and bring other players into play.

His first touch is definitely a problem particularly against teams that wont allow you to play. Put it this way there is a chasm of difference between his first touch and say Aguero and Giroud but at the ebd of the day Lukaku has goals in him.

Its hard not to compare him to Morata who seems to be a much smarter player with better movement. I would still personally take Lukaku but the more i watch Morata i cant help but think he could be some player.

Put it this way Morata to me looks like a more technical version of Harry Kane.

If he bags a goal per game, I won't care at all, particularly if we end up re-signing Ibra for the second half of the season and (hopefully) the business end of the CL.

I think he's done OK to be fair.

If he can bully the defender, keep hold of the ball and lay it off then that's his job done IMO. We haven't bought a Sheringham but we have bought someone who can run the channels, give us pace and power on the break and, most importantly, put the ball in the back of the net.

Let the other, creative, players do the magic I say.

I don't fear Barca tbh, very weak defence. We're level with them, only R. Madrid that is on another planet atm imo.

but are his below par ball retention skills going to spoil our season in the long run?

No.

Zlatan could sign this coming week according to some rumours today.

Barca are nothing to be afraid of and this is not Pep's barca who hog the ball.

On the other hand, his recklessness in possession concerns me as it should concern anyone (not to mention his workrate) but as long as he continues to bang them in...

I think people are understimating it tbh; particularly as we are creating buckets of chances.

I recall the same with Rooney, how many times did promising attacks break down because of wretched play? Especially a team that frustrates or doesn't give you enough chances, being casual in possession is no good.

I don't think so. Any of the 5 teams in the CL would have a real real chance of beating Barca over two legs. Their GK, midfield and defence (and now LW) is the worst I can remember at Barca they are a million miles behind Madrid and even Bayern and Atletico.

He keeps the balk better than Zlatan from what I've seen

Both are pretty bad.

Lukaku will be missing less sitters than Ibra though, I'll give him that.

He's hardly a disaster... His touch, strength and layoff led to one of our goals, yesterday, and helped with other chances too.

He's definitely not a disaster, I just think when we play top quality sides our best players need to be spot on.

Lukaku is a brilliant presence and I think he will rack up the goals, I just don't have confidence in him to perform to an elite level when it comes to his overall game.

Sometimes that can be the difference in the latter stages of the CL.

Well he scored against Madrid when we faced them. I too have my concerns but, looking at Morata, I am so glad we got Luk.

posted on 20/8/17

I honestly don't get the criticism. It's not enough he's strong, fast, good in the air and clinical infront of goal. He now has to be Mark Hughes like with hold up play?

Bore off. He's not that type of player.

I'd say it's a valid point.

Would you ever bet Lukaku to recycle the ball better than Mata?

Even if we isolate it to positions where they're both equal...

...So excluding shooting opportunities?

I wouldn't.

I know Mata is the opposite end of the scale to Luk, but....

Barca are not behind Atletico, they still have Messi and I think they could still embarass not just beat all the English sides.

His all round game is poor, we knew this when we signed him.

He's never gonna improve that part of his game massively,

As long as he scores a lot 35 ish a season it should be ok.

Yeah Lukaku suits us better.

Morata is talented but will take a bit longer to adjust. He was poor for Chelsea today

OP

Seriously just shut the eff up.

Morata today made Lukaku look like a Duracell bunny, god dayum he literally walked the whole game and had a terrible miss to boot.
