Cavani yes, Aguero yes, Benzema questionable (only as form has dropped off but then again how many strikers could do the job he does at Real). Why is what they did 5 years ago irrelevant, what's the cut off point? Especially when they're as good or even improved over 5 years. Hardly an outlandish opinion or doing a disservice to Kane to say Cavani and Aguero amongst others are better, they're world class strikers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not denying they're world class strikers. But if you consider them world class, then so is Kane. I think you are basing it completely on reputation. Aguero and Benzema are not the players they were 5 years ago.

Individuals can be argued but there are a lot of players on a similar or better level to Kane.
--------------------------
Well there are not a lot of players on a better level than him.

You could argue there are a lot of players on a similar level. But the original question was whether Kane is world class, and he is amongst the best strikers on the planet
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You are only basing that on PL goals.

There is no other evidence.

Given the PL is pretty weak on a European let along global level, id say that's a false barometer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry, but that is utter bollocks.

Scoring goals against PL sides is a lot more difficult than scoring goals against Spanish or French sides.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Is it?

I'd say Kane is world class personally. I don't particularly enjoy watching him play, but I didn't enjoy watching Shearer either. They're still outstanding at what they do.

Ever? So Charlton, Moore, Lineker, Greaves etc. don't count?

Kane would be world class, IMO, but he is no David Healy😀

You either need to acknowledge Kane is world class or near it. No other answer is acceptable.

The closest England player to being world class outside Kane is Danny Rose in my opinion. Sure, he's no Marcelo ( Marcelo's performance against Bayern last season is the closest I've come to cumming watching a football game), but he's easily th best LB in the league and he's close to the level of the likes of Alaba and Sandro.

Yeah possibly. You'd put him in a top 5 for potentially world class England players at this moment. If I was to rank them it'd be something like:

Kane
Rose
Alli
Rashford
Walker

And then who knows the rest of the order.

Agreed.

I'd say he's near it, but it's just a matter of time. The kid is lethal.

What is there to disagree with? The word world-class is thrown about to any footballer that has a few good games by fans!

Didn't Sir Alex once say, he only really had 4 world-class footballers?! Imagine how many United fans would have actually agreed with that?

Sir Alex was talking gibberish if that's what he actually thought.

I'd say Kane and Alli are close to world class. I'm not convinced Rashford ever will be.

Q. Will an England player ever be in a Champions League team for the foreseeable future?

A. Highly unlikely

I disagree about Rashford. I even expect him to have a really good season this season.

I'd agree that Kane is world class; he's one of the best 'in-the-box' strikers in the world.
However I suspect that what Southgate means by world class, is not overall ability, but the type of player with the flair to score or create a goal from nothing.
And he's right England do lack that sort of individual talent x

England have rarely produced these flair type players, historically. But then neither have Germany and look how successful they've been.

All England/Southgate need to do is create a TEAM. As we've mentioned with Denmark and Greece. Both were great team efforts that weren't reliant on individual brilliance, even if that can help.

And how many teams in the world have that kind of 'consistent' individual talent? Spain, Portugal, France, Brazil...maybe Uruguay. Current world champions certainly do not and the likes of Belgium, Italy,Wales et al are not streets ahead of England

Only Southgate of course can delineate what he means by that lazy remark but we can only speculate.

The weakest link in this set-up is the midfield (centrally, in particular). I struggle to recall a midfield this weak - even i could get in.

Kane is top class in the Premier League but still has a lot to prove in Europe and internationals.

Quicker, sharper, leaving better defenders on their backsides.
