How about starting the next arch thread as soon as the FT whistle blows for the current match. Should ensure lots of posts.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We already have the arch thread.....the arch rivals thread, it takes over every thread on here.

There are some of us who, having worked hard all our lives, chose to retire to a warmer climate. Others just moved away from the bleedin' awful climate in the UK.

Wow, what an arrogant twaaat. Not everyone wants to move away from the UK you know.

The most patronising, and socially inadequate person you could ever wish to meet. Not a problem as we accept all people on this board.

In all seriousness Herbie, you could well have a point there. There are some of us who, having worked hard all our lives, chose to retire to a warmer climate. Others just moved away from the bleedin' awful climate in the UK. Or it could be that just because we live far away, our opinions aren't worth a toss.

Either way, as Jack Nicholson said " I don't give a damn"

But the trouble with Mr Molineux is, he holds a grudge from way back in the old BBC606 days and refuses to drop it. Sad person really.

The UK actually has a temperate climate. far preferable to that that you get in many parts of the world. Lots of people have left, or fled the country for reasons other than the weather. If we asked them all why they'd chosen to go, it would take forever. If they're crooked, the law catches up with them eventually. For whatever reason, they've decided to turn their back on their country, and that is their prerogative.

To be open, I plan to stay abroad for longer periods once I'm of retirement age. But it would be 6 months here, and 6 there. Not a permanent arrangement.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Strangely enough the weather only played a small part in my decision to leave the UK and settle abroad. After 25 years on oil platforms in the North Sea I can handle pretty much any type of weather! There are various reasons why I left, current politics, uncontrolled immigration and rising cost of living all played a part. Strangely though my main driver was the need to be near the sea. After living my entire life in the midlands, the desire for sailing and scuba diving became just too much and I had to get away. Is Mallorca perfect? No, of course not but as I don't understand the politics I don't need to get involved and can live in blissful ignorance. The Spanish are bonkers and amuse me constantly and my kids are less than 3 hours away

We all make our life choices gem. Personally I much prefer the weather of the uk to the heat and humidity of somewhere like Florida. And I am lucky to have a great family and lots of friends I have known for many years and have no wish to move away from them all. Well apart from going abroad for holidays a few times every year. And of course I love going to the games, drinking real ale, and black country humour amongst many other things about living in the uk

Why you all gone soppy on the match thread

Well, apart from Bute who's still trying to get a tussle out of cinci

posted on 21/9/17

Weather is a key factor for me in part due to my birding life, I need extreme seasons to really get stuck in and access to multiple environments that I simply wouldn't get in the uk but I also do need a lot of sunshine as even the short winters here start to get me down.

I would say it is impossible for anyone living in the UK full time to even appreciate what a genuine summer actually is though and it is a life changer for sure.

Feel like he same regarding the politics gem, folks here ask me all the time about Trump and I just tell them I frankly don't care as I cant vote.

The other factor for me that has vastly improved is the safety element, I have felt much safer since living on the USA than I ever did in the UK.

I was always a sun worshipper when I lived in the UK and had to take my vacations either in Greece, Malta or the Canaries. Now I have sun all year round, I can enjoy it, but rarely go to the beach to sun bathe. Don't need to as I have an all round year sun tan just by doing daily things.

The cost of living was also a factor and over here (away from major cities) you can get more for your money than you ever could in Blighty.

Taxes are also better over here and as cinci points out, I certainly feel safer over here than when I lived in Surrey. I can leave the house unlocked and my top down on the car when shopping without the fear of it getting nicked. Try doing that in most places over the pond.

So if Solly wants to call me arrogant for wanting a better life for me and the memsahib, that's his problem.

Up the Wolves and stop picking on our match thread leader, Sir Halfy. He has to collate all the info in order to produce the best articles on JA606.

Solly didn't call you arrogant for "wanting a better life" but because you assume that posters disagreed with you out of some form of jealousy because you moved away.
I think you will find that posters disagree with your views and the way that you express them rather than where you live.
After all, GeminMallorca has moved from the UK but his views are expressed reasonably and although not all posters agree with them, he doesn't seem to get half the flak that you get.
Just my observation.

Love it. History Today.

Shame they fell out, (although I gather that Newman went along to Badiel's show recently, and posted a nice comment on Twitter - so the rift could be healing).

Regarding the "uncontrolled immigration", (if that exists), is it the same in Spain?

Bute, the word 'uncontrolled' may not be strictly accurate but over the years I have seen the country I love (England) being slowly taken over by immigrants.
When I was younger it was West Indians, Indians and Pakistanis all of whom had a right to move to the UK as they possessed British passports. Then came the EU influx. Open border meant that anyone within the EU could move to the UK whenever they liked. Unlike Australia and New Zealand who insist that you have a sponsor, a job and some money before you are allowed in, the UK just accept anyone and for some reason that is beyond me, everyone seems to want to live in the UK. I can only assume it is because of the benefit system which is ludicrously easy to exploit. I lived in Bewdley in Worcestershire, 3 miles away is Kidderminster where you can now hear English and Polish spoken in equal measure.
I suppose what I object to most of all is that none of the immigrants want to integrate into UK society. They want live amongst their own, eat their food, and worship in their mosques, temples, etc. Once Muslim communities had started to create no-go areas and enforce Sharia Law with a complete disregard for English law I decided enough was enough.
England is broken and will never be repaired. You are lucky where you live, you have none of these problems and you never will. After all why would immigrants travel all the way to Scotland and then get a ferry out to your beautiful island when they can get everything they need much further south.

Here in Mallorca there are areas which are a stronhold for ex-pat communities. Magaluf, Palmanova and Port de Alcudia being prime examples. These are places where immigrants have no intention of integrating, they want to speak English, eat English food, watch English TV and drink in English pubs and Irish bars. My wife and I avoid these people whenever possible. We are learning Spanish, we eat at Mallorquin restaurants, attend local festivals and generally try to embrace the culture of this beautiful place we have settled in.

Coady rewarded for his performances this season with a new contract. Some thought he wouldn't fit in to NES's plans but he is probably the most improved player at Mol under NES. Well done Conor.

Very well put Gem, if I may say so. The USA has an immigration problem, but apart from those who commit crime, they do the harvesting and lower paid jobs that the average Yank won't do. In the UK as you rightly say, is they come over and sponge off the NHS and demand benefits. There are no English where I live and wherever I go, the girls love and want to listen to my accent.

gb. I've filtered Butey, but unfortunately others copy and paste comments he makes and of course I then get to see them. So when he makes a derogatory remark about me, I'll respond and rightly so.

Gem, my best friends on this island are Polish, Romanian, Moldovan, Lithuanian, Italian, plus various other nationalities. None of whom sponge and who all work long hours. Two of my dearest friends, a couple from Constanta, in Romania have travelled with me to the Philippines and also South Korea. They speak several languages, and the wife already is fluent in around half a dozen, and is currently learning Korean, where they one day would like to retire. My partner is from the Philippines and also hard working, a deputy manager in a chain store here, and also a key person in the business we run.

I have my hair cut at the Syrian barber, (who has brought his skills to the island), and am looking forward to a bakery opening soon, also by Syrians.

So you'll understand why I'm always a bit tired of the clichés that come out about people sponging and looking for benefits.

That's not a dig at you, by the way, just wanting to put the record straight. Unfortunately Facebook has a lot of Britain First posts, often fake news, disguised as legitimate posts. Gullible friends have shared posts talking of Christmas trees having to change their name to "Happy holiday trees", and similar nonsense, and it is sad.

I know you recognise the irony of you decrying immigration, whilst doing the same thing yourself, which is why you mentioned the fact that you're learning Spanish.

Maybe not what you thought I was going to say, but it now give you a clearer picture of what my life is like.

You don't have to copy and paste - just "reply"

If you call immigration in the US a "problem", why did you contribute to it?

Perhaps your views about foreign people didn't sit well with being in the police force, which is a body which looks after the whole community, regardless of colour or creed.

In such circumstances, I would understand the need to emigrate due to the "climate".

Don't most immigrants in the UK contribute to society, pay taxes and do a lot of the jobs that Brits don't want to do.
I'm sure that in the run-up to Brexit, there were multiple reports of immigrants contributing lots more to British society than they took in benefits.
Unfortunately the scaremongers won the day.

As for leaving the UK, I say each to their own. Is someone moving to Spain, learning the language and encompassing Spanish culture more noble than someone moving there and still wanting some ties to the UK (food/drink, TV, socialising with like-minded people)? Not sure, but I do know that both contribute to Spanish society by consuming goods (creates jobs) and by paying taxes. From a purely financial viewpoint, there's probably no difference.
