Out here we have Spanish neighbours who we are very friendly with. They don't speak more than the odd word of English so our conversations are full of hand gestures and laughter
Personally speaking I have never had a problem with immigrants and we had thousands upon thousands on the south coast after the eu opened up.
Find a lot of them to be hard working folk to be honest but I also found that a good percentage struggle/show little willing to integrate outside of the workplace.
That said, I think the British element is a far bigger drain on the UK than the foreign one.

nearly replied to yr comments yesterday gem, but i'm always wary of dragging a football forum into politics. but I couldn't have said most of what I wanted to say any better than the replies you did get.
I am a great believer in freedom to travel, live and work wherever you can find a space in the world that suits you, with the expectation that you fit in and contribute positively wherever you settle. whether that's from working, setting up yr own business, or simply adding wealth to the local community from spending yr hard earned pension.
most immigration that I have experienced in my life is exactly that: a major positive to the country. and if there are some folks who don't want to mix, so be it...there's no additional requirement on immigrants to be more sociable than the people who were born and raised where they now live.
ultimately, people wanting to move to a country should be seen as evidence that there's a good lifestyle available to be had. the time we need to start to worry is when nobody from Europe wants to live in the UK, because it will mean low wages, low employment, and low living conditions for the rest of us.
that said, i'll be emigrating to live in Italy when I retire, dog willing, so anyone who wants to join me on my terrace in Tuscany and share a few bottles of brunello is welcome.

Perhaps you think it goes unnoticed but I can assure you it doesn't and it portrays you in a very unfavourable light which appears not to be in keeping with your general character which is kind of sad.

nearly replied to yr comments yesterday gem, but i'm always wary of dragging a football forum into politics. but I couldn't have said most of what I wanted to say any better than the replies you did get.
I am a great believer in freedom to travel, live and work wherever you can find a space in the world that suits you, with the expectation that you fit in and contribute positively wherever you settle. whether that's from working, setting up yr own business, or simply adding wealth to the local community from spending yr hard earned pension.
most immigration that I have experienced in my life is exactly that: a major positive to the country. and if there are some folks who don't want to mix, so be it...there's no additional requirement on immigrants to be more sociable than the people who were born and raised where they now live.
ultimately, people wanting to move to a country should be seen as evidence that there's a good lifestyle available to be had. the time we need to start to worry is when nobody from Europe wants to live in the UK, because it will mean low wages, low employment, and low living conditions for the rest of us.
that said, i'll be emigrating to live in Italy when I retire, dog willing, so anyone who wants to join me on my terrace in Tuscany and share a few bottles of brunello is welcome.

Bute, it warms my heart to hear that you have people who have moved from other countries to settle on the Isle of Bute and who have obviously integrated with the local population. I actually love the idea of the "big melting pot" but have had limited success with making friends with immigrants. I used to play basketball with a Jamaican guy who invited me to his house for dinner. His family were delightful and were as English as me but just with a different dialect when speaking. In Bewdley I lived next door to an Indian family and despite my best efforts I could not get them to become more than just people who lived next door.
Out here we have Spanish neighbours who we are very friendly with. They don't speak more than the odd word of English so our conversations are full of hand gestures and laughter

That's the kind of positivity I prefer. I have a golden rule, and that is to take people as I find them. I'm lucky that I've had good experiences on my travels. I took a phone call from Vietnam yesterday - a most charming and polite girl inviting me to her company's stand at the World Travel Market in London. I so appreciated her politeness that it set me up in a good mood for the rest of the day. Little things, but they resonate with me far more than any Britain First nonsense.
The gestures of smiles etc., are very powerful, and shows we can all "speak" other languages just by such things.

I was referring to the Police Oath, which has a fair minded approach to all society. I believe all in that profession have to swear by it. I haven't put any words into Wolfy's mouth.
