Lukaku song - another viewpoint

It's funny how all of a sudden this song is a major problem when if you wanted to you could find 100s of chants across the league's that someone could find offensive, or racist, misogynistic or whatever internet buzzword they choose.

........................

Indeed. I am very sure most referees have been very offended by fans loudly querying their parentage.

Yep.

Kick It Out just trying to stay relevant in an era where racism is at an all time low in the English game...

...so says the cynic in me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Groups like Kick It Out have to justify their existence. If racism were to totally disappear tomorrow, there would be a lot of people out of work.

Is it a major problem though? I haven't seen one person say they care about it.

................

You just know that the fans will change the lyrics, and some will still be offended.

The group that really wound me up was the 'League of Black Lawyers'.

its not, and the reason no fan has reported it is because theres nothing wrong with it, as someone pointed out kick it out maybe haven't had any work for a while and need something to get in the news, I have no issue if its a genuine racism issue but this? come on

I agree it will never happen but the point is more that if it did, groups like Kick It Out would become obsolete. Therefore, those within those groups (and who are earning salary from it) will not want the problem to go away. It will be against their own interests if it did.

I get that there is no malice INTENDED in the song, but the point has been made that there are underlying social implications related to the song.

Plenty of people on here are saying nobody has a problem with it, but that simply isn't true. The truth is nobody wants to hear an opinion unless it's in line with their current beliefs.

I could outlay a perfect argument as to why the song should be banned but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what any of you think. If people are offended, it's their right to be offended and it's nobody's right to decide what other people should take offence about.

Has anyone considered that lukaku might have a micro p3nis, and this song was helping his issues over it? No? Might even be the reason for his good form.

A lot of people on this thread proclaiming that black people have no business being upset about being stereotyped as a race (and ignoring how these particular stereotypes play into the narrative of the beastial negro which was used to justify slavery) have bristled plenty of times at lazy generalisations about themselves as United supporters.

Deep down, I would be a touch disappointed in anyone, black or white, who was genuinely offended by the song. But that doesn't change the fact that it is based on racial stereotypes, nor does it matter that people who sing it don't always realise this. As the OP says, it is to do with the animalisation of a whole race of people. No surprise at all that Kick It Out have stepped in and, yes, I'd have to say that the song doesn't really have a place in the 21st century, even in a football stadium.

For me, I couldn't care less if it is banned or not, but that's my view.

I read an article on it in the Guardian written by a white person who said it is also racist to suggest Asians are good at maths. Being half Asian myself I don't in any way find it remotely offensive (I am good at maths and was pushed hard by my Asian mum to work extra hard at maths) but it's great to hear from someone who isn't Asian to tell me otherwise.

As a mixed race person I seem to be constantly told what I should be offended by (mainly by white people) rather than seemingly being allowed to use a bit of common sense and use my own judgement.

There is no black 'community' in this country. There's just people. We will all be mixed up in 30 years.

Great points and as a black person I see a lot of things telling me what I should be offended about., I disagree with most things as I'm not easily offended at all. One of them being that bbc video comparing the act of using a black emoji to blackface

I also cringe at videos by the likes of buzzfeed and MTV that basically aim to make white males feel guilty just for being white.

However, it is frustrating that many people on here can't take each case on it's own merit and understand that just because some people are not comfortable with one thing, it doesn't mean they are offended about everything or trying to make anyone out to be the enemy.

People can be disappointed in me for thinking the song is inappropriate but I don't care, the song sucks. Most people on here have no idea what it's like to put up with having dodgy stereotypes attached to you every day and I don't expect most people to be able to relate but some comments on here have been pretty ridiculous.

I get that it's a bit of fun for most people, nobody is disputing that, but when someone says, "hey I know it's a bit of fun but can you stop now please cos it's kind of not cool" you get called over-sensitive, so when you continue to provoke the situation by refusing to stop, it no longer becomes "just a laugh".

Fear of Black male sexuality in particular is said to be a core reason for the subjugation of Black American men.

..............

Never heard of that one Robb.

.................

I think most people fear them now because they are armed to the teeth and have no value for human life.

The suberbs of DC, Chicago, Detriot and Baltimore are not running sacred because of big willies.

I'm surprised at how disgusting this comment is, even for VC.

It almost implies black people do this because of their genetics and not the way society treats them.

Robbs comment was very stupid though.

Tbf, I don't think vc meant what you think Kung fu, it's more of a comment on the op's points. I didn't think it was stereotypical or racist in any way, or at least not meant that way. found it quite funny.

I think you'd have to take an enormous leap to arrive at that conclusion.
