They do love to distract from yesterday's disaster by introducing another one today and from a cabinet point of view you'd hope Javid was aware of this "plan" before he went on Marr and categorically ruled them out.

Not sure how Boris can say "the sadge is correct" while also saying that vaccine passports are still on the table

Well the health secretary went on TV and said people shouldn't need to show papers to take part in society but I guarantee he will vote for the bill that makes ID required to vote in an election.

You don’t need a photo ID for many banks. For example barclays;

You need a NI number to work legally (afaik) but not a photo ID. So for example, my first job at a local Italian restaurant, I did not need (nor did I have at the time) a photo ID. Additionally I was paid in cash so did not need to have a bank account. I’d imagine this is the case in a lot of SMEs particularly in the hospitality sector.

My kid who got his first job at 16 a few months back at the local steakhouse had to provide photo id.
I work for a global SaaS provider and you have to provide photo ID to get through our outsourced background checks.

Pictures on drivers licenses only started in early 90s in Quebec. Was fun explaining to cops in states and other provinces. And translating it for them.

To be fair some can't grasp that people can live and function without ID as judged by the standard of their own life. Official stats suggest millions don't have ID and they are mostly labour voters. So either the stats are wrong or they're just lying to us.

Neither of my sister's drive, neither of my sister's holiday abroad, neither of them have photo ID, Both have bank accounts, both have/have had jobs.

Neither could vote under the new system.

It’s a statistic I had never even thought about.

Crazy really, and that the majority are Labour.

Even though I don’t how they have clarified that stat.

Imagine spending millions on providing photo IDs because like 6 people in 20 years have committed voter fraud

Certainly not, given there's been 6 cases of voter fraud in recent elections, they are creating a problem where there isn't one, to create a problem for people who don't traditionally vote for them.

I know from UK (AML) anti money laundering legislation, and (KYC) Know Your Customer rules, lenders are required to verify their customers' identities.

Whilst passports and driving licence are the two commonly used, there are a wide range of documents lenders will accept.
