With the way some go on about the EU it's a miracle some of the other 180+ countries manage to prosper so well without being part of this magical entity.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's how the world works. Trade gravity. Countries that are geographically closer tend to trade more with each other than those thousands of miles away.
Depending on what you want from a trade agreement, countries 'give up' autonomy of their regulations (trade liberalisation).
The EU developed the SM and CU to remove nearly all barriers to trade for those inside its customs territory and internal market. It became the most sophisticated and developed market in the planet.
The consequence of which means that all its members agree to a common framework of trading rules and obligations.
Other countries around the world have their own regional trade agreements too, with comparable (much like the EU) obligations for its members.
https://www.worldbank.org/en/topic/regional-integration/brief/regional-trade-agreements#:~:text=A%20regional%20trade%20agreement%20(RTA,of%20trade%20for%20all%20signatories.
So if for example the UK joined NAFTA it would be bound by NAFTA's trading rules and regulations.

10months in brexit is the catastrophe we said it would be with signs suggesting it will only get worse as full checks have not yet been implemented
Some are still not ready to admit it was a mistake but the time will come
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I admit leave was flawed and lacked vision.
I also believe the EU is flawed and dominated by little dictators, on occasion.
It’s not exactly far from the truth to say whoever voted Brexit and still sticks by it isn’t thick.
I mean you’ve got a prime example here of the bloke who just posted that we should trade with the EU without any barriers and then goes on to say why we shouldn’t be in the EU.
Ever since the vote was cast it’s exposed just how thick the elders amongst society really are when it comes to this subject, I always thought the older you get the wiser you become. Not when it comes to Britain.

Actually, i did listen to wwspd and other experts and remainers and changed my mind, years ago.
However, people voted to leave and it is done, so in the real world we need to work together.

Please please go change international trade law then TBAB, create worldwide regulatory alignment, who h of course could be decided by no one at all, because that would be "a dictatorship"
You cannot align with both the US and EU regulations, you can have open and easy trade with just one, it's that simple.
Do you want a border on Ireland, and devaluation of 80% of our trade, to reduce tariffs on 5% of it?
