The number of cars built in the UK has continued to fall for the third month in a row, dropping to their lowest level for September since 1982.

A total of 67,169 cars were produced in Britain last month, a decline of 41.5% year-on-year, according to a new report from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

The fall represented a "worrying trend", the industry body said in a statement.

Exports to the European Union dropped by a third last month, as cars exported to Turkey, Australia, and the US also fell.

Brexit Britain
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It would be interesting to see how much of that impact was the global microchip shortage and how much was Brexit related supply chain issues. I guess the only way we'll know is by monitoring the numbers into the new year.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Indeed. We're seeing manufacturers pulling various models from their portfolio in light of semiconductor, and microchip shortages.

Imagine it is also impacted other manufacturing industries.

In regard to Brexit many of the trade barriers (rules of origin etc) are to be phased in over a period of years, to give manufacturers time to adapt and for UK/EU businesses to source alternative supply chains within their respective internal markets.

I enquired about buying a new Ioniq 5 at the weekend. Got given a lead time of 5-6 months, so it would be March before I had it if I went ahead.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Very cool looking. Yeah I think delays are almost guaranteed at this stage. My new car is definitely being delayed
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I test drove it and it was like being in a spaceship. Pretty quick as well. My commute for my new job is about 60 miles per day, so I want to go electric to reduce costs and reduce my emissions.

I really want it, but I am just about to complete on my house move too and am not sure whether it's a good idea to add another thing whilst there is so much economic uncertainty.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah go all out mate! Unless you have any work to do to the new house. Renovation work is costing a bomb right now.

How much is it going for Tam?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

About £45k for the model I wanted. Depends on engine though. I think the lower range engine was about £40k.

It's a new build, so little renovation work. Although I need to pay for carpet fitting and flooring. Couldn't believe how much they charge for a day's work.

Stupid prices, how are we supposed to be going net zero by the end of this decade when prices for those type of cars are like that? Even on a finance deal you're looking at a minimum of £350 a month.

More than that on some of the finances. Car finance is the biggest rip off out there.

Pays to do your research, as there are some really good products about. That said the amount of people who don't bother to value the goods, and end up paying way over the odds for them is nuts.

Especially the eejits who buy diesel Land Rovers which can lose up to 20% of their value just by driving it out of the showroom!

For many British people the Second World War is the nation’s modern founding story. But in Germany it remains difficult to talk about and very rarely features in popular culture. German historian Katja Hoyer joins Al Murray to record a live version of the pod at the British Museum.

A few chuckles and a fine listen.

Sky News understands that all countries are set to be removed from the international travel red list today after the Prime Minister's spokesman said there are no plans to scrap the red list in the way it has been reported

We can travel freely again lads

Red list has been pretty small since the start of October and seeing as we have nearly the most infections anywhere he's probably done that to avoid us getting restrictions

Senate hearing just starting in which four major oil companies are to be grilled on their efforts to mislead the American public on climate change.

Opening statement from the first Rep senior senator (James Comer) has gone like this:

“What about IMMIGRATION? There are still immigrants flooding over the border? What about the increasing tax burden on the public, and skyrocketing inflation as a result of the Biden administration’s failures on the economy? Why are we having this hearing when we should be talking about issues the American people actually care about! What about the Democrats’ failure to get COVID-19 under control? This is nothing but a partisan exercise to generate media soundbites for the Democrats!”

Absolute facking clown of a waaaanker.

Cochran

...ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense!

Gerald Broflovski

Damn it! ... He's using the Chewbacca defense!

Cochran

Why would a Wookiee, an 8-foot-tall Wookiee, want to live on Endor, with a bunch of 2-foot-tall Ewoks? That does not make sense! But more important, you have to ask yourself: What does this have to do with this case? Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense! Look at me. I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca! Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense! None of this makes sense! And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberatin' and conjugatin' the Emancipation Proclamation, does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit!

The defense rests

Many people who voted Tory have heard what she said and believe it refers to them.

Of course once she had sobered up and got a bollokin off Starmer she backtracked but lots of Conservatives (and probably some Labour voters) believe she meant all Tory mp's and voters.
