The amount of Johnson apologists who have been doing the rounds trying to defend this has been embarrassing. But not all together surprising.
As with any judicial enquiry/legal proceedings, disclosure is a prerequisite, and the defendant/claimant does not have the right to choose what evidence is relevant or not.
As the phone was being used in a public office capacity full disclosure was mandatory, and could be enforced by the High Court. Even if it happened to contain non government related content.
I see the Telegraph’s latest campaign, supported by ministerial code breaker, two-faced backstabber and former chancellor-for-day Nadhim Zahawi, is for the abolishment of inheritance tax.
Multimillionaire Zahawi, who it appears doesn’t believe in any form of taxation (this is the guy we should remember who wanted to cut the basic rate of income tax by 2p as soon as he won the Tory leadership race, and said that ALL departmental budgets, including the NHS and education, could be cut by 20%), goes as far as claiming that inheritance tax is inherently “immoral” in any form. This is the same Nadhim Zahawi who also claims, with predictable regularity, to believe in a meritocratic society.
One question…
WHICH IS IT NADHIM, YOU FACKING THICK CAAAAANT? BECAUSE YOU CANNOT BELIEVE IN BOTH.
Absolute toszer.

People are free to argue the reduction or, like this particular wealth hoarder, abolishment of inheritance tax. I will overwhelmingly disagree with them, but fine; I understand people wanting to give their children a head start over the rest of the pack and carry privilege down the genetic line.
What you can’t do simultaneously is propound a belief in a meritocratic basis for society and do your bit to champion and perpetuate bootstrap politics. Because that would either: a) make you, knowingly, a disingenuous spectacularly massive hypocrite; or b) demonstrate a very serious lack of critical thinking skills.

British factories have reported a 16th consecutive month of falling exports, with manufacturers warning obstacles to trade since leaving the EU are undermining business relationships with firms on the continent.
The findings came as the former US treasury secretary Larry Summers said Brexit will be remembered as a “historic economic error” that damaged the UK economy and has helped to drive inflation higher.

In seriousness, why should my kids pay tax on money that has already been taxed at least 3 times over?
We weren’t handed this money. We worked for it.
So that we can have state pensions, a free-at-point-of-service healthcare system, public schools, infrastructure, a social security net, policing, etc.
Would you rather have rid of some of those benefits, would you rather pay more income tax in the first instance, or are you happy paying inheritance tax (which is one of the most progressive taxes we have)?
