Thinking long term I hope they do ban exports and seize factories. We will be fine as we are self sufficient is vaccines. It may delay our completion by a few weeks, but the main hurdle in massively reducing deaths will be completed this week anyway (all over 50s getting their first jab). Long term this will send the message that the EU is not open to free and fair business and companies will not want to go there are be based there. I don't think the EU realise just how little a ban would affect us. The good thing is Ursula is such an amateur tactician I can actually see this realistically happen, so go on Ursula, we have been a very bad independent country, punish us
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Imagine thinking this country can go up ahead a union of 27 countries with a combined GDP of $18 trillion. We are a third country, everything that is happening to this country is down to us as we wrote the rules for being a third country.

Looking beyond the vaccines, the dynamic changes considerably. The EU is capable of wrecking havoc on UK economy. Total mess.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No reason to block exports of anything beyond vaccines though? If they started doing that for no reason then my point would be amplified a million percent. No sane business would ever want to go there ever again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There are dispute settlement mechanisms in the TCA the EU can rely on to curb market access. As well is tarriffs on UK imports.
I would like to think things would never get that bad but as many sectors here are overly reliant on exporting to the EU, it it did come to that, it would be extremely damaging to the UK economy/jobs etc.
The problem is Frost honestly seems to believe the UK is on same level as the EU (insofar as influence/economic clout) which should have everyone a bit worried.

You have to wonder how such a marvellous concept as the EU allows someone like Von Leyden to take up such a senior position despite a record of abject failure, continue to worsen in performance and then have herself beamed across the Western world coming out with pathetic political threats time after time to try and deflect from her own, her employers and their member states abject performances over something so critical.

The problems are of the UK's own making. They chose to leave the EU institutions which delivered frictionless trade, thus setting up trade barriers.

A soft implementation of divergence was proposed by the EU but the UK wanted out, as swiftly as possible. And would 'manage' whatever issues transpired as they happened. Not exactly the most competent policy choice IMO given 40 odd years of interconnection and interdependence.

Like it or not the UK economy of the last 40yrs has been grown and developed with interdependence, and in many areas complete reliance on trade with Europe.
Pushing back against trade gravity serves no purpose. Other than self harm. And whilst the Gov looks to move into markets elsewhere it will take time, to bed in. However just because areas across the globe are growing quicker it does not follow they will generate more jobs or investment into the UK than we did as a member state.
The current continuation agreements will take many years to renegotiate and in some instances we may get comparable market access as the EU. In the main we won't as the UK cannot and will never be able to offer partners what the EU can. As the UK is one, and the EU is 27, with a considerably bigger market than us.
Ironically the areas the UK specialise in, such as services and financial services very rarely came under the EU's common commercial policy (ie we were pretty much free to do what we wanted anyway) are areas the Dept of Trade are promoting as areas for investment.
However instead of being able to offer a market of circa 500m odd consumers it is now a market of around 65m which will be reflected in whatever terms are agreed.
