This is down to mismanagement of the prisons which the Tories have enabled through neglect, underfunding, cuts to funding, understaffing and and also by just being geniuses like you. I understand that there’s electioneering and then there’s taking your majority to Parliament with a freedom to act, but as soon as they have the keys to the castle, they need to change their message.
The UK needs large (with a capital L) scale infrastructure investment and an interventionist industrial policy, now. If it doesn’t get both of those things, it will not see growth, and it will fall further and further behind.

Update: Attal (Macron’s PM) has said that candidates from the Ensemble alliance that qualify for the second round but have no chance of winning will withdraw to give the first/second-placed non RN-candidate the best chance to win.
It looks like it’s not far off the fascists vs an everyone-else alliance now. Le Pen should be as good as sunk.
