It’s just a matter of time for FPTP. It’s a dusty anachronism, and a joke to most of the rest of the developed democratic world.

There are now many Asian nations and even a handful of African nations with more democratic system than the UK, and it’ll get to a point, if it hasn’t arrived already, where the electoral system will start to impact Britain’s standing on the international stage.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lol it won't make a impact on the international stage. What a silly comment to make🤣🤣
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don’t think you have any idea how people see Britain from outside.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They won't care about our electoral system 🤣🤣🤣

I’ve spent the last fortnight trying to explain FPTP and the Lords to people here mate, and they literally don’t believe that that’s how our legislature works.

You have to understand that from the outside, it doesn’t even look like democracy. At all.

One chamber entirely unelected and full of nominated and landed millionaires; the other can see a party receive 4m votes and only win 4 seats.

It looks ‘normal’ to us because we’ve grown up with it, but the UK isn’t a democracy to people looking in.

The Lords has become a bit of a conundrum, especially after Boris Johnson gave his (allegedly) illigitimate daughter a peerage.

Not on the international stage though is it? When will Macron, Biden, Trudeau criticise UKs electoral system? They won't because it's a non issue to them as it is with everyone around the world

Explaining it to a handful of people makes no difference

It isn’t really a conundrum. It’s feudalism in the 21st century and a laughing stock outside the UK.

Cronyism and a landed and moneyed class lording it (literally) over the masses.

I agree, it would actually be a good thing to have a 2nd Chamber with people there on merit rather than linage and/or corruption.

Rosso the Lord's is archaic nonsense and we want it changed bur you're being moldramatic

You say people don't know about the lord's and you have to explain it then say it's a laughing stock... Almost every democratic system has some nonsense in it, ours is just out of date nonsense

The ridiculous thing is in order to effectively change the lord's, Labour need to flood it with their people. And a bit like FPTP, once it's benefited you in power.... Why change it 🤔

The likes of Transparency International, Freedom House, Pew Research Centre and SGI do and will continue to criticise the British system.

SGI doesn’t rank the UK as High Quality Democracy now, and its lowest score across the board is in electoral processes, where it ranks below almost every single country in Europe, barring the likes of Hungary.

These things matter, not only within the borders of the UK.

The majority use PR and the only countries still using FPTP are former colonies like South Africa, New Zealand etc.

It’s used in the Caribbean, some Pacific Islands, some African countries and around five developed democracies. Yemen, Qatar and Bangladesh using the same system isn’t a great advertisement.

The vast majority of developed, democratic nations use some form of PR.

“I understand that a strong woman standing up to you is met with such reticence,” replies Jess Phillips to a group of men intimidating after her win.

Jess then tells of how a young woman delivering leaflets yesterday was filmed and screamed at by an older man, who then slashed her tyres.

Huge respect to Jess.
