Quite clear now that for the Tories to reestablish themselves as a political force, they’re going to have to come back towards the centre.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They will go further right
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They can’t.
They’ll be beaten on that ground by Reform and further turn off centrist voters.
They won’t improve their vote share by going right. And we know that’s what they’re all about.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Normally I’d agree, but it looks like the mentalists of the party are going to be running for the leadership.

True; but they aren’t voted to leadership by their peers. It’s the members who decide.
Plus, given the now tiny number of Tory MPs () some of the headbangers will struggle to get enough nominations. The 1922 Committee won’t allow a race between seven lunatics and one One Nation candidate.

Have you seen who the members have voted as leader the last eight years?
Right wing media are really pushing how unfair FPTP system is this morning.
I agree with them, but it's unbelievably funny it's only now a problem because Reform barely won any seats despite the number of votes.

Barring Truss, they were all *on the box* well to the left of the likes of Badenoch and Braverman.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be delighted if the Tories go rightwards and to war with Reform. But I very much doubt it’ll happen.
Analysis by the Sutton Trust suggests that Keir Starmer’s cabinet will have the highest number of ministers educated at comprehensive schools, and the lowest proportion in modern history who went to private schools.
Based on Labour’s shadow cabinet, 84% went to comprehensive schools, 10% went to private schools and 6% to state grammar schools.

No coccking about now. This is a massive mandate, and Labour have to be planning for five years of complete economic renewal.
What we need to see ‘day one’ is announcements on those issues it’s going to take five years to address: industrial policy, massive infrastructure investment, house building.
Those cannot wait twelve or eighteen months to get rolling.
For all the talk of Labour's low vote share, i wonder how many voted for the likes of Lib Dems as a tactical vote just to get the Tories out
Least this has shown just how quickly people will flip in 5 years though, so Labour can’t think just because they’ve got a huge majority that in 5 years they’d still worst case scenario win with a minority. As it can flip so quick and so big
Labour and the Conservatives are calling for a recount of South Basildon and East Thurrock.
Reform are around 120 votes ahead I'm told.
