At least give Labour a chance on this one, the first meeting with the water companies is today so let’s wait and see what transpires

Hopefully Steve Reed goes in there with a Tommy gun and plenty of rounds.

The opportunity therefore was to delay the response until they could properly evaluate the full situation, much as they have with defence spending. Not to jump into a completely meaningless agreement in principle. This 19% rise fixes nothing and satisfies nobody.

I suppose they have the final decision in December, but they’ve set their stall out now and I don’t see that changing.

Absolutely fackin horrendous situation.

Poor kid is doing the school drama production today so we decided not to break the news as he’s back late.

I’m picking him tomorrow lunchtime and bringing him home. social services will be there and a school councillor when we give him the news.

Feel so sorry for him, he doesn’t deserve this

Cheers Hector

The investors have had their money back over and over. They are as well bailing out and dumping the stock, enforcing an inevitable government takeover than to put many more billions in without further returns.

‘Braverman in spat with Badenoch over 'breakdown' jibe’

A row has broken out between potential Tory leadership rivals Suella Braverman and Kemi Badenoch after Mrs Badenoch accused the former home secretary of having a "very public" nervous breakdown.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cg3eqy1r5q0o.amp

Badenoch, the self-labelled “anti-woke” politician, who answers questions about the economy by rambling on about cultural issues and accused Labour of trying to “bend the knee before an “altar of intolerance”, attacking Braverman for using “divisive”, culture war-stoking rhetoric

Absolute gold. Love to see it. Hope it’s the messiest Tory leadership battle ever.

I love that phrase

Next time I'm stopped speeding:

"Good afternoon, sir. Do you know what the limit is on this road, and what speed you were travelling?"

"Yes, officer, but I've stopped the car now, so we consider the matter closed."

"Excuse me sir?"

"WE CONSIDER THE MATTER CLOSED!" [drives off]

Enjoy mate, and few things I want to see that haven’t yet been discussed but early days for the new government. Main one is lowering VAT rate to 10% for hospitality / if there’s any plans to

And obviously if we’re going to bring in stronger regulations for water companies to ensure tap water is of high quality, touch wood yours and my water in Essex has been fine but given the challenges other areas have faced it’s still always a worry.

Would also like to see more powers given to security guards, appreciate it increases the risk of some security guards going gung ho and power tripping but we’ve got to do something to try reduce and curb shoplifting. Even though I have sympathy after cost of living, they’re still contributing to higher prices because of lost income prices then raising.

Train companies in public ownership or more government regulation would be nice too, somethings got to be done about these fares. German/EU companies charging us fortunes to use trains in our own country while in their own countries their prices are dirt cheap, it’s embarrassing

posted on 11/7/24

Cheaper fares = more people using public transport = more people going to work / not working from home = increased spending in areas and growing economy, and additionally reducing pollution / car use

So it’s a cut that makes money and increases our GDP

Same as what the VAT hospitality would do. I think it’s a joke that it’s 20% VAT, plus a 13% service charge in most places, and increased costs. Restaurants having to charge them to survive but then more people just can’t afford them.

Cut it, = more business, = more money to the economy

Add all the extra quality to life too - people exercising / going to office more and using public transport and not sitting at home or in their cars, and similar with restaurants

It’s two things that give instant payback / benefits

posted on 11/7/24

And then water

Higher quality tap water = more people drinking it which = less plastic / rubbish build up from water bottles

So another thing that just has instant benefits

City VAT to hospitality?

By what amount?

posted on 11/7/24

Surely a simple thing is to cut VAT on the RMI market and create more jobs and opportunities that way?

I sent them two by email mail, but as they have not replied I guess they think they are crap questions?

The first one is asking if the new government is <unlike Truss> prepared to borrow responsibly to break us put of the fiscal austerity straight jacket.

The 1nd question is does this government understand that to solve the rental market crisis its needs to not only better protect tenants but also incentive Landlords back to the market. I would like to see a scheme where in return for agreeing to a rent cap mortgage tax relief is offered to Landlords.

Trouble is neither of my questions is that relevant to the political news this week and they did ask for one question to be relevant.

My back up question is if Trump wins the election and cuts or removes funding to Ukraine, then what is the UK contingency plan?

VAT chat reminds me of a very depressing talksport interview with Ray Winstone this year

He's banging on about Brexit and how now we're out we can abolish VAT and all our problems will be sorted through a boost to the economy (no mention of what the shortfall in public funds and lender confidence would do)

Gabby Agbonlahor says "well said"

Texts and tweets flood into talksport saying "WINSTONE FOR PRESIDENT"

No wonder we lost the referendum and had 14 years of Tory when people think Ray Winstone is at all qualified to make these calls just because he has a charismatic working class way of saying it
