The BBC knew he had been charged last November, despite the fact he was 'on sick leave' they continued to pay his full salary and gave him a £40k payrise.

Maybe it's time to defund the BBC and find an alternative way of running it.

He hadn't been charged you fecking genius.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jimmy Saville hadn't been charged but the BBC were fully aware of what he was up to.

Fekin genius.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You've basically said nothing here, fecking genius.

I really did you dimwitted oaf.

The BBC has a lot of issues that need to be resolved, but I’m not sure defunding it is the answer. Especially when you consider how much of a mess our media establishment is already in.

What if they had sacked him and then he was found not guilty. All the 'innocent until proven guilty' stuff would start up and you'd still be saying they should defund the BBC.

The licence fee should remain if only because its abolition would bring joy* to lots of very stupid, very nasty people

*or at least whatever chemical process it is that passes for joy in their dull, dreadful brains

Even taking politics out of it, the BBC has lots of value for what it does for tv and radio in this country.

Should probably say news, to more accurate.

When was Edwards charged, I don’t recall hearing about it

BBC 5live is the only radio station I listen to when driving. Excellent presenters bar the geezer who does the week day 1-4pm slot.

Excellent sports coverage too.

BBC Sounds is excellent too. CBeebies is constantly in use through TV and iPlayer in our house too.

Yeah, there’s a lot of things the BBC do that people take for granted.

It also gives the talent in those industries valuable opportunities to hone their craft. Especially when you consider it’s not all about profits like similar private companies.

Crowds of protestors have been throwing bottles and flares at police in London this evening, at a protest organised by Tommy Robinson and Laurence Fox.

Far right at it again. Being true patriots, they also decided to throw flares at the statue of Winston Churchill (the same statue they said they had to defend on Remembrance Sunday when they turned up and rioted).

The Churchill cultists always make me laugh. They put him on a pedestal, but when it comes to one of his biggest legacy, the ECHR, they completely ignore the significance.

Going by Boris’s rhetoric surely he should be demanding that City should be thrown out of the league?

So they've seen the Southport rioters roundly condemned and mocked, they've seen the people of Southport come together to clean up their mess, they've seen a parent of one of the victims appealing for calm, and they've thought, "Right, we'll have some of that."
