They're a boring bunch the H&S bunch in my experience. Not belittling their work, far from it the on-site deaths figures are miniscule from when I started on sites, but I've yet to meet a charismatic safety officer.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Haha true enough. I think they have to be a bit poindexter though. Same with HR and finance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What is it with finance? They actually go on like it’s there money.

This is why you have to keep your FD in order and make sure he/she knows exactly who they work for.
None of this “I’ve kept by £200k just in case” at year end.
You cwnt . What we could have done with that
This was 4 days ago but if you ever wanted to know why nothing gets built in this country:
It cost £297m to produce the Lower Thames Crossing's 359,866 page long planning application.
That's more than it cost Norway to build the world's longest road tunnel.
The Department for Transport was meant to decide whether to approve it today. Instead, we got another delay.
-----
The one thing I hope more than anything Labour achieve in their tenure is their pledge to restructure the planning system.
The amount of growth that would provide might actually get the country moving again.

London has an open chequebook when it comes to infrastructure projects, maybe the country could get moving if the money was more evenly distributed
As a country, we are fvcking appalling at finishing both on time and on budget.
Go and look at ISG collapsing a couple of weeks. Supposed to be building 7 prisons, with public money, and have failed miserably . Same with Buckingham
Group and the absolute shiiiiiiit show that is Carillion too.
It should be illegal.

It is illegal. That’s the thing.
But as ever there will always be someone who will happily sign on the dotted line and accept the illegal terms that come with it.
So my company lost a good bit of money on ISG. We couldn’t get insurance credit but took a punt on backing them because they literally released a statement saying that everything is fine… by fine it turns out they meant a £600m black hole.
We’ll be fine but that will numerous subs out of business and you can be damned sure the shareholders will have taken some fat dividends. How is that allowed? It which shut down businesses who have completed the work on a project funded by public money.
The tendering process needs looking at because shysters like this must be buying work.
Changes to planning laws should see a lot more projects happen throughout the country

Can’t divulge too much but there was a +£20m removal of funds just prior to the announcement.
I’ve had experience of this before albeit not to the same level. The administrator enforced repayment. It’s illegal to withdraw funds from a business that has a significant risk of impending failure.

- Yet OVERALL population is rising at the fastest rate since 1948

Britain is gonna be the European Japan in the next 20 years
Nearly every year since records began a century and a bit ago, more people in the UK were born than died.
In the year to 2023, that changed.
664k births. 681k deaths.
The net drop of 16k is the biggest on record (also in % terms).
