Always difficult to understand millions of men and women voting to weaken their own rights and protections, but it isn’t any huge surprise, because we’ve seen it so many times before.

The US has historic income inequality, and that’ll only get worse more quickly under Trump as he cuts taxes for millionaires again and the wealth fails to trickle down.

I saw a graphic the other day comparing the US’s current wealth distribution to that of 18th century France. That’s where we’re at already. Wealth extraction and hoarding under late stage capitalism has arrived at the equivalent levels of wealth extraction and hoarding under European feudalism.

Eventually, the working class will inevitably realise that it has been duped, in quite cynical fashion, as it always eventually does. Sadly, it looks like that realisation will only come at the point that they have next to zero free healthcare provision (Trump has already said he’ll tear up Obamacare, with no plan to replace it), zero employment rights and zero net wealth.

When it finally happens, they’re going to be very, very, very angry indeed. And we know what happened in 18th century France.
