I don’t see the evidence pointing to him being a “dead duck”.
He’s demonstrably active and influential on the international stage; he has a government in power supportive of his agenda, led by his party; he’s getting laws passed…
“Dead duck” sounds to me like a narrative with little evidence to back it up, and plenty to the contrary.

What's wrong about going to armistice day exactly? I assume he'll also use the time to talk to Macron, which is probably needed more than ever given Trump's just got in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would he talk to Macron? He’s a dead duck as far as politics go.
And doubt they’d have the time or the inclination for a chat on such a sombre occasion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He’s President of France until (at least) April 2027, with significant control over foreign policy and military matters, including being Chief of the Armed Forces.
He’s also chair of the Council of Ministers and effectively sits as a minister. His deputy is President of the Senate.
President of the Republic is a seriously powerful role. He isn’t just a figurehead like the presidents of many other European states.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
“Significant control”? You jest, surely. He’s absolutely hamstrung and can’t enact anything. Goodness me
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I mean, he’s just (personally) signed a €10bn investment partnership with Morocco and agreed to train a brigade of Ukrainian troops (as well as apparently making other military commitments) in the last week or so.
And his government is functioning, with a new PM, defeating a no confidence vote, and already passing laws (new legislation on rentals and AirBnbs this month).
So it would appear he is actually busy “enacting” stuff.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only as and when it suits his detractors. Essentially he is hamstrung and will be out soon enough. Who to will be the burning question of course.
He’s politically a dead duck. Believe otherwise as you wish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On Ginge, if you say so
It still doesn't mean Starmer shouldn't have spoken with him about Trump being elected you loon

You claimed Macron was done without providing anything to back that up, whereas evidence has been provided to demonstrate the exact opposite, and STILL, you cannot accept the facts because you don't like them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
To which I responded I doubt they’d find the time.
He may well have done but from what I read it was a pretty quick visit and a fairly full agenda
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sooo what's your problem then?
It's a weird thing to argue the toss about.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eh? Who said I have a problem other than you just now?
Do people who disagree with your views have problems or like some others it’s just my user name that attracts the attention?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Erm, what's your problem with Starmer meeting Macron to talk about Trump & Ukraine?
Or is he meant to wait to 2027 for a French President Ginge off the internet thinks is suitable?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Goodness gracious.
Feel free to point out anywhere I said I’d have a problem with them meeting each other.
This is a weird take
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Why would he talk to Macron? He’s a dead duck as far as politics go."
Are you drunk?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now please tell me (and everyone else) where that says I have a problem.
And put down the bottle while you’re attempting to waffle out of that daft accusation.
I’m asking why he’d bother. I’m sure you see the difference.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He'd bother because he's the French President you dope. Your unquantified pissedup ramblings don't change that
'Why's Starmer talking to the leader of our neighbouring country about recent geopolitical goings on? '
What a weird take

You claimed I had a problem. I asked you to show me where I said that. You’ve just waffled.
And if you’re incapable of backing up a daft accusation it’s best not to throw insults like “dope” or get angry or frustrated as appears to be the case here. I don’t insult you or anyone else.

That’s fine we disagree on Macron’s influence. I just believe he is pretty much hamstrung and certainly not the future of France or its policies.
And being on here I can assure you I’m pretty thick skinned and broad backed. I just know how it can deteriorate on here, but to be fair to you, you’re not that kind of person as far as I can tell from experience.
Anyways. Beach time now it’s a tad cooler and hopefully a decent steak dinner this evening. One thing the Americans seem to be decent at.
BREAKING: The assisted dying bill, proposed by
@kimleadbeater, has just been published in full.
It would apply to adults with a terminal illness and less than 6 months to live.
They'd need 2 doctors and judge to approve.

They're passing one here to allow people to book MAID.
Medical Assistance In Dying. In advance if they're worried about Alzheimer's/dementia.
It's a slippery slope as I've heard stories of medical workers encouraging people to choose it. Too many old cvnts to support with a shrinking tax base.
I think that's the ethical problem, medical professionals and even family members could apply pressure and someone who is terminally ill could feel obliged to kit be a burden
I have however seen my mum and now my step mum lose all dignity as they near the end and that's not something you'd wish on anyone

Anti-vaxxer, 5G conspiracist and AIDS denier Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said over the weekend that he intends to terminate 600 employees at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and replace them with a new group of workers.
“We need to act fast, and we want to have those people in place on January 20 so that on January 21, 600 people are going to walk into offices at NIH, and 600 people are going to leave."
The NIH is a federal agency that is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and serves as the nation's medical research agency. Its workforce is similar to that of universities and academic medical centers. NIH employees work in research settings, clinics and in the field worldwide. Many are world-renowned experts in their respective disciplines.
Anti-seed oil and flouridated water campaigner Kennedy has also said that he will clear out "entire departments" of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“In some categories, there are entire departments, like the nutrition department at the FDA that are—that have to go, that are not doing their job, they're not protecting our kids.”
Here’s a reminder of something else Kennedy said recently, posting on social media below a photo of Bill Gates:
“The digitalized economy? We get rid of cash and coins. We give you a chip. We put all your money in your chip. If you refuse a vaccine, we turn off the chip and you starve!”
Everything is going to go so well in the US these next four years…
posted 1 week, 6 days ago
If these things happen as expected the US will never be the same again.
The department of education is being disbanded which will lead to a two tier education system. The rich will be properly educated and the poor in the red states will he taught creationism and other insane things. Taught about slavery? Nope. That’s banned. Along with regulations on younger people working taken away more and more kids will leave school at age 13/14 and go work in factories and other places where deregulation will lead to 60+ hour weeks.
Meanwhile in blue states where governors will try and stop this kind of thing the gap between the blue and red will be huge and it would be no surprise in the next 20/30 years the federation is broken up. All because a game show host and a rich nerd who wants a hug from his dad fooled a load of people.

A quick bit of math determines that Musk - on his own - spent on Trump’s campaign more than *six times* the spending limit for a political party contesting every seat in a UK general election (US$200m vs £25m).
Estimates put him (literally) tens of billions of dollars richer since the result was announced though, so that US$200m looks like a pretty decent investment on his part.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
“Significant control”? You jest, surely. He’s absolutely hamstrung and can’t enact anything. Goodness me
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I mean, he’s just (personally) signed a €10bn investment partnership with Morocco and agreed to train a brigade of Ukrainian troops (as well as apparently making other military commitments) in the last week or so.
And his government is functioning, with a new PM, defeating a no confidence vote, and already passing laws (new legislation on rentals and AirBnbs this month).
So it would appear he is actually busy “enacting” stuff.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Only as and when it suits his detractors. Essentially he is hamstrung and will be out soon enough. Who to will be the burning question of course.
He’s politically a dead duck. Believe otherwise as you wish.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
On Ginge, if you say so
It still doesn't mean Starmer shouldn't have spoken with him about Trump being elected you loon
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To which I responded I doubt they’d find the time.
He may well have done but from what I read it was a pretty quick visit and a fairly full agenda
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sooo what's your problem then?
It's a weird thing to argue the toss about.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eh? Who said I have a problem other than you just now?
Do people who disagree with your views have problems or like some others it’s just my user name that attracts the attention?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Erm, what's your problem with Starmer meeting Macron to talk about Trump & Ukraine?
Or is he meant to wait to 2027 for a French President Ginge off the internet thinks is suitable?

What's wrong about going to armistice day exactly? I assume he'll also use the time to talk to Macron, which is probably needed more than ever given Trump's just got in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why would he talk to Macron? He’s a dead duck as far as politics go.
And doubt they’d have the time or the inclination for a chat on such a sombre occasion.

He’s also chair of the Council of Ministers and effectively sits as a minister. His deputy is President of the Senate.

Too many old cvnts to support with a shrinking tax base.
posted 2 weeks ago
